Re: 70 c10 fan & shrowd w serpentine sys ?

The fan that came with my takeoff system had a 19 inch reverse rotation fan. I ordered a new 18 inch reverse fan that worked perfectly. I did trim the depth of my shroud also. I don't have a pic of the shroud.

What serp system did you install?

How much clearance do you need?

The shallowest stock small block shroud is the 2WD, A/C shroud (approx. 5" deep) The non A/C shroud is about 6" deep so you'll only gain an inch with the A/C shroud. You may have to trim it.

Ditch the fan and the shroud. Here are some pics of how I set up my Camaro. I have an adjustable thermostat to turn the fan on and off so it doesn't run all the time. It's an alternative to running the fan/shroud and has no problem cooling a BBC with compression, I am sure it would be more than adequate for your needs.

Not sure about your exact setup, but I went through this a while back. I had a 97 vortec engine with the serpentine setup that came on it. I ended up trimming about 2" off the fan shroud near the engine, and installing an electric fan in the fan shroud. Couldn't tell it was an electric fan until you really got to looking, and it had room to put a mechanical fan in. This was on a 4x4, and the engine sat really far back though.

What's the problem your having? Is the fan hitting the shroud? Is the shroud hitting the accessories or belt? Is the fan too close to the radiator?

Re: 70 c10 fan & shrowd w serpentine sys ?

the problem i'm having is the shroud won't go past the water pump and if I put a fan against the water pump the fan would be to far back on the motor and hit the serpentine system.

Thumbs up Re: 70 c10 fan & shrowd w serpentine sys ?

Go get the 2 speed fan off a junk Ford Windstar. Hook it up to run low speed through a relay on 87A connection and a Thermostats set at 180*. Then on 87 connection have high speed come on with ac are just when ever you need it. This will turn the 87A off anytime the 87 cis switched on automatically.

I have this setup on my 64 SS Impala and a similar setup on my 71 C10 and they both work great. The 64 has both the electric fans and the motor fan. The c10 only has the electric fans.

I went one step further and hooked a micro switch up in the fan wire to cut the fans off when at speed so they don't run for no reason.
This video was while figuring it out on the Impala it has gone through several changes since. It works great.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

To get the fan away from the motor you can either use the fan that came off the setup your using or find a fan spacer: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/flx-14548/overview/. They have different lengths too.

I cut my shroud down with an angle grinder.

Re: 70 c10 fan & shrowd w serpentine sys ?

I put a 89-95 C1500 Drive set up in my '69. First thing to remember is the water pump AND the fan/clutch set is reverse rotation.

I installed a Derale 17" reverse fan (DER-17917) and a Hayden 2734 fan clutch. I had to drill the holes in the clutch a bit bigger to fit on the water pump. I trimmed my shroud so that the fan is 2/3 inside of the shroud edge (can't remember how much exactly but around 1/2 inch???)

Hope this helps.

Did you change the water pump? You must change it to a reverse rotation water pump. If you know what year serpentine setup you have get the same year water pump. You will actually replace Alt, water pump, ps pump, a/c compressor if you have one, and all the pulleys.

Talking Re: 70 c10 fan & shrowd w serpentine sys ?

Hopefully anybody who does a serpentine swap knows the basic's of the swap, as in reverse rotation's and such. I would hope anyway!

I guess it good to cover all the bases though!
