That came across the wrong way. I wasnt talking about your situation.. just situations in general. And for the record. I have been that guy before. I always learn the hard way. Glad to hear it is working out.

Re: I am upset with Firestone

I will say you are a better man then me , I would have called them back the next day and asked if they have in stock complete set of tires for my F150 then asked for the excact price including the tax, made a appointment to take the truck in the next day , on my way there would have stopped at my bank for the total amount IN CHANGE and if they had enough pennys on hand that would make my day . and give them there CASH . I have done this before and trust me they have to sit there count it and take the change ,and they cant say you cant pay with change, it leagle tender and they have no posting of a sign or in there service agreement that says they do not accept change as payment. that is the only way they can not except that form of payment.

Back in high school, I once was in a bind for some gas and I literally emptied my cup holder and looked under my seats and found like $3.47 in change and went to get my gas. That's when you could pump it, then walk in and pay for it. This old grouchy lady behind the counter fussed and said for me to never do that to them again! Being in high school and quite a young smarta$$, I told everyone I saw to go do that to them at that gas station. Needless to say, lots of kids followed suit and dealt them misery for a while counting all that change.

I like the way you think, Brother, but I'm not giving Firestone another cent of my money unless I, myself, end up in an emergency and get stuck there like my daughter did.

Another thing I had not mentioned.....my parents bought my daughter her car, 2015 Chevy Malibu LS, and we had not checked to see if it had a spare tire or not. It didn't have a donut tire, jack, or anything in it. I checked the Internet and found that all Chevy cars do not come with the spare tire kit. What kind of logic is that? Is Chevrolet/GM that tight to make a buck?????

I'm disappointed in this whole thing!

Back about 45 years ago I was working full service and a coed comes in and counts out her change and bought maybe $0.95 of gas. I felt sorry for her. She was a regular customer in that small town.

On topic: I finally got a full size spare wheel and tire for our HHR. So now it has two spares, or more like 1.25 counting the donut.

Re: I am upset with Firestone

Did a little hunting online and found this 3 year old article .

According to AAA, 30 million vehicles in the U.S. don't have a spare tire for their car. So where are the spare tires? Automakers began eliminating spare tires to make vehicles lighter to meet fuel efficiency standards. More than a third of new cars don’t come with a spare tire, an increase from 5 percent of new cars in 2006, says AAA.

I tried paying a speeding ticket back in the 80’s using change. They refused to accept payment and told me to return with “proper” payment or get cited for disorderly.

It's U.S. Legal tender. I'll bet a judge would back you, but you never know. They're usually in kahoots.

Hard to get a judge to side against their enforcement crew... and they know it.

Its not just GM. Its everyone. They save money, cars are lighter and in theory will get better mileage. And the majority of people don't want to change a tire anymore.

I paid a ticket with pennys , it was a 000.00 fine but a 100.00 court fee, for a BS ticket/fine I got for my Dog , witch I will not get in to , long story

They told me the same thing and I told them you better check your facts , you have NO sign or no statement on the ticket states that they do not accept change for paymemt of fines.
the law basicly reads that All US coin is considered leagle tender in witch all public ,federal, state debts, fines ,taxes can be paid with Coin, They had no choice ,I told them I will be right here after your done counting it for my reciept.

Re: I am upset with Firestone

I knew they (Firestone) wouldn't call me back, at my request, after filling out their service questionnaire. "They didn't want none" is what my son said.

We did get my daughter a donut & jack from the used car dealership where my parents bought the car for her. Very big thank you to Billy Wood Honda in El Dorado, Arkanss, for doing this almost a year later at no charge. Nice people.

No Firestone for me ever again!

My buddy is a Ford parts man. Apparently, the Ford Fusion and other models come with an electric pump and a can of fix a flat. He was showing me the kit a few years ago. It's all about weight savings and space savings. From what I understand, Chrysler, GM, Nissan, et al. Are doing the same.

I can only think of one time I've ever had to change a tire on the road in one of my own vehicles. So, I don't really see it as a big deal. On the other hand, a spare, even a donut offers a certain piece of mind.

My .02

If you have children it's a good idea to have them a linked checking/savings account that you can transfer money into in case of emergencies. My wife and I had an account just like that and she was in another state on business and needed $$ for something. In a minute she was able to go about her business.

You can have access to both accounts, but they can only view/deposit into theirs.

Re: I am upset with Firestone

.
Firestone did me wrong over 10 years ago...at which time I did the same as you...Have not and will not ever go back there unless it is the ONLY option.

Re: no spare... My DD came new with run flat tires back in '07, no spare or jack. Upon my first tire replacement I went with regular tires and used the saved $$ to purchase a compact spare tire kit with jack and cover. It's been riding around with me in the trunk ever since then. I've used it twice.

Count me as lucky also. Been driving well over 50 years, sometimes as much as 50K miles/year.... not so much anymore. For a short time in the late Sixties I had a $50 1954 Ford with very thin tires and I had a few flats. That's about it, can't recall any others. And I have always carried a full size spare. Sometimes I even check the air pressure in it!

If they would have put the tire on and let me pay over the phone.....on a Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock in a city one hundred miles away......I sure would have given them a big thumbs up!

What I really would love to know, had she not called a friend to come pay cash.....would that business manager have really locked up and walked to his car and gone home and left her sitting there in a disabled car???? I bet he would have put her a tire on, but we'll never know because the manager got what he wanted. She got someone to come pay right there right then and he didn't have to worry about the credit card sale.

Either way, Firestone has burned their britches with me. I would not go there ever unless it's a dire emergency!

Re: I am upset with Firestone

.
I found Mr. Bullards Facebook page with a simple google search "Firestone manager bullard arkansas"

The first link from that search is his facebook page.

I can tell you from looking at that....this guy is very young. From his main profile picture, his wife appears about as young as your daughter. Also he's been in his current position apparently since about March of 2019.

I'd say he still has a lot to learn.

EDIT: removed a derogatory statement

He sure does! If he's in the business of selling tires in the year 2020, he should be ready to take a credit card number over the phone for a $90 purchase. Not a full set of tires for a $500 purchase, but 1 low end Primewell 16 inch tire for $90 from someone who is obviously stranded. He could see by her drivers liscense she was from 100 miles away. No sympathy from me. This guy's a jerk!

I've spent most of my life living and working off the pavement. Lots of log truck flats on those granite roads. I fixed those old "widow maker" split rims myself.

I really like having two spares for every vehicle, which I do for some of our rigs. At least having an extra tire/wheel at home lets you throw it in the back when you drive to town to get the other one fixed.
