Well, im not so glad you have asked...haha

Managed to go all winter without getting any work done to it. Maybe we will get to the body work next winter?

As for fuel economy, I don't have a reliable way to track mileage so its hard telling. The only time I checked, I got about 16mpg but I was hauling 10k pounds about 200 miles and I probably could have gotten better if I kept my foot off the coal dispenser pedal.

As for not so happy you asked... The other week I pulled out and about lost my rear end. 100% my fault on the fabricating end. I known better than to weld to a factory heat treated plate. My mounting plates sheared between the bolts and my welds Lucky after all the trailers i have hauled, this happened with an empty bed (on my way to pickup a motorcycle). Here's the carnage:
Driver's Side

Passenger Side about to go

I saved the 3/4T leaf springs from the donor chevy frame. I think I am going to take that route because 50% of the time I use this truck i am hauling something and I was never sure about the fact that all the weight was hanging the way it was.

Re: Chummins Build

Shame to loose the nicer ride of coil spring - appears the mounts sheared b/c their distance away from the center of rotation (center of axle shaft), coupled with the tremendous torque of that 6BT. I think you'd be fine if you beef up that area 100% & reinforce your trailing arms. GM added additional top and bottom plating on 3/4 ton trailing arms also (which BTW it appears you're using pedestrian 1/2 ton "unreinforced" trailing arms), but I suspect you'll need a bit more with that engine.

Re: Chummins Build

Maybe now is a good time to switch over to air bags.

Re: Chummins Build

Ok so I know this thread is old but the bug was put in my head by a fellow gear head who's only ever owned Cummins powered vehicles. After reading your thread it looks like everything fits (even though it's a tight fit) how is the truck doing since your last update?
