Re: hood popper rod for custom grill trucks

I used the rod that came with the grill. However I used a rod end on the section that attaches to the hood release. I was going to build a mount for an elect popper and go that route but truck was freshly painted and I wanted to put it together and cruise.

Re: hood popper rod for custom grill trucks

My Dad this problem on his 76 when he had a billet grille for a while.
He attached a rod to the hood release that ran down to behind the front bumper (still hidden though) & had a rubber pad on it. You could bend down and push up on it or if you knew right were it was you could even use your foot to push up on it.

Sorry I do not have pics though.

Re: hood popper rod for custom grill trucks

Some of the custom grilles come with an extension kit.It bolts to the original hood latch release and is operated beneath the bumper. There are also a couple of guys who fabbed up a cable release from a later model.I don't know if anyone has written it up for FAQ's though.
