New and looking for Frame help

Hello, new to the website, I have a 72 which was a long bed converted to a short bed. I think that it may not have been correctly modified, as when you look from behind and line up the back part of the bed with the bottom of the window, the right side is higher by about 1-2 inches. I have tried adding some spacers to even it up, but its still off a bit and me being OCD, drives me nuts...lol. So I have been thinking of searching for an original SWB frame or donor... and wonder if all the 67-72 frames (C10, K10, stepside vs fleet etc) are basically the same/interchangeable... or would other years require some modifications? I'm sure this questions has been addressed here many times, but I couldnt find a thread on it. Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Re: New and looking for Frame help

There was a discussion recently about the subtle differences from one year to the next.

https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=820205

Fleetside and stepside have the same frame.

Some trucks came with coil spring rear suspension, and some with leaf springs. You could use either type for your truck, although the rear axle mounts are different.

Not sure about 2WD vs. 4WD in terms of the frame rails themselves. The front suspension/axle is obviously different.

Re: New and looking for Frame help

Thank you for the input pj! I have the coil spring rear suspension and will look to keep that. Now I just need to be patient for a frame to materialize so I can make this happen

4wd rails are different. The rear section behind the cab is totally different.

Re: New and looking for Frame help

C30 frames look like the 4x4 frames
67 frames differ the user rail area in not trimed around the motor mount area
68 frames have the same size smaller rad support bushing hole
Several body mounts ask you to either cut the lower part of your bushing kit or in large the hole to be the 69 to 72 size
A arms are pretty much the same size 67 72 ball joints differ depending on spindles

Re: New and looking for Frame help

Hello again, so my truck which has been at a friends for storage, I just realized that it has leaf springs, did those only come on the K20's? I believe I have located a good SWB frame, but does not have any trailing arms, rearend etc., just the frame. I believe all I would need to do is cut the leaf spring brackets from the rear end to make it work? Also, are the trailing arms a better ride than leafs? Thanks for everyone's input

Re: New and looking for Frame help

All the 4wd had leaf springs front and back from the factory, coils and leafs on the 2wd varied due to options. All longhorns and 1 tons had leaf only

Re: New and looking for Frame help

Thanks kwmech....Are the trailing arms a better ride? So if the frame is setup for leafs, I would just need to get a new trailing arm crossmember, would that be accurate?

Re: New and looking for Frame help

1/2 rwd leafs where an option
Us made gmc usually leaf rear canadian made gmc usually coil rear

Coil truck arm are a better ride and can be setup to work well

You will need to buy new axle locating plates for trailing arms and weld them in proper place keeping good angle for the pinion drive shaft angle
Captainfab on the board reproduces them

My personal opinion is if you have a truck and using as such it should have leafs. A custom built ride such as what you are doing can go either way depending on how you build and drive it. If you are wanting to convert to coils then yes you will need a coil x-member to make it an easier swap. I had a coil short bed truck years ago I converted to leaf. It had a horrible wheel hop with the big block when I got on it. It went away with the leafs and a traction bar
