70 rear leaf springs

Hi, I'm new to the site and I have a question about the rear suspension on these trucks. I have a 1970 C-10, short box, fleet side with rear leaf springs, but most of all the C-10's I've ever seen have the long trailing arms with coil springs. The leaf springs, I assume, were an option, but what option package. Heavy duty payload?
I also want to lower the truck. I looked at 2 1/2" drop spindles for the front, but it currently has drums on it. If I buy the drop spindles I assume I can use all the disc brake components from a newer C-10. As for lowering the rear, I have not seen kits to lower rear leaf spring trucks and the springs are on top of the rear axle. It looks like I may need to take the rear springs out and have them re-arced by a spring shop. I don't want the truck so low I need to "C" notch the frame, but I also would like to be able to put a Harley in the back or tow my car trailer without making the thing squat too badly. In other words, I would like to "use" the truck if I want without making it look like the rear bumper is on the ground.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: 70 rear leaf springs

The grass is always greener on the other side, as I wish my C10 was a leaf spring truck. But check out these guys: http://www.earlyclassic.com/catalog.aspx

Re: 70 rear leaf springs

Early Classic Enterprises (site sponsor) has 4" drop rear leaf springs for your truck. They are the springs I am going to buy when I lower my 1972 GMC 1500 Super Custom that has rear leaf springs.

Re: 70 rear leaf springs

Thanks for the info.
What suspension package did the rear leaf springs come with?
Heavy duty towing, payload?

Thanks

North of the border this is not the case. Coils standard and leafs optional on either. Leafs are definitely in the minority up here but when you find them it is just as likely to be a Chev as a GMC
