I have another question in addition to the ones above. Is the only thing that supports the beds the angle strips on the bed sides. I they seem to be thin metal to support such a heavy bed. I know the tailgate end has a beefy cross member but it seems as though the rest of the bed is supported by the angle strips with the wood just floating between crossmembers with a few bolts trough them? I may be overthinking this but it concerns me

There are three other cross sills that go on the bed as well. You should be able to find them in any catalog.

Yeah, I have the three cross sills but allthey really attach to is the agle strips and middle strips. The weight of the bed would be carried by the side angles, Because the three other cross sills are not permanently attached to the side rails. I suppose it is enough it has worked work the first 59 years of it life.

Update. I am waiting on the POR 15 clear sealer for my wood bed I made out of popular and stained dark mahogony. I went today and bought my paint for the exterior. I decided to go with a base coat clearcoat and it will be painted week after next. I went with harvest moon beige and will paint the whole outside inside and fenders the same color. Also got my exhaust in today and will be puting it in tomorrow. Goal is still July 4th to have it going and plan on putting in the hometown show in august. wish me luck

Well I got the bed on her today... just sitting so far. I will be sending her off for paint tomorrow afternoon. I will be on vacation next week, going to the beach finally, and hopefully upon my return next weekend she will be smoth and all one color. Harvest Moon Beige. a nice neutral color and will look sorta original. I hope to have the 4/5 drop on her also, well see.. here are some pictures so far, the pics of the bed are the bottom and not as smoth at the top sides. I have coated them with POR15 prelucide and now just lack the minwax heisman spar.

Well it looks like it will be the next weekend before I will get her sent to paint. My buddy didn't get layed off this week it will be the following week so he will take it then. U.S. Steel changes their mind at the drop of a hat so you dont know what you will be doing each week. But good for him to get another week of work. I think they may be laid off for a month this time before they are brought back.. I am so glad not to be working for them anymore in this economy. But anywork is better than none. So in other words Im sad to to get the truck painted next week but glad for my friends at the steel mill for at least another week.

nice build! I'm new to this forum and this is the first S10 swap/build thread I've seen. I can see why so many do it.

One question though, are you keeping that stance? Lowering it should be as easy as lowering an S10, right?

Keep those pics coming! I get jazzed when I see somebody else making progress, especially when my progress is going slow.

You are right. the drops are easy. I will be doing a 6/5 drop and that should put it about 5 or 6 inches off the ground. Thanks for the comments.

The bed is looking nice. What paint did you use to for the bed? Looks like you used a roller?

If so, how did it turn out? I'm thinking about rolling on some bed liner on the inside of my bed panels, but I'm afraid it will turn out looking like crap.

I rattle canned the bed sides and rolled the fenders. I am going to get it all repainted with BC/CC next week

Well body work has been going slow, just a couple hours after work 2 or 3 days a week. I stripped it down to bare metal with 80 gritt and DA. Man that was a lot of work but still cheaper than sandblasting. Got my new cab corners put in and dropped the rear. I still got the front drop to do going to wait after paint though. We sealed it today now got to wetsand then base and clear hopefully this weekend. Then all I lack is stripping the bed then body work on it. Here are a couple of pics I took today with my camera phone. Sorry quality isnt that great.

Ok britnjc.....im either really jealous or i really love it! i cant decide yet! haha wow thats amazing work! you said you were a first time down to frame rebuilder but i would never be able to tell...the difference there is that im a first timer too but looks like im having a harder time with mine! hahaha keep up the awesome work! cant wait to see more pics!

Very nice work ,any chance would you have some pics of how you mounted the steering column, and brake bouster .Also did you ues the hand brake from the s-10 .Any info would be appreciated .Thanks Robert

Britnjc, The build looks great keep the great info and pics coming. I'm building a GMC also and the front clip is all apart. Do you mind taking a lot of pics when you put the front clip back together, and share them? Thanks.

well for the most part my clip is back together but I would be able to answer any questions you got. I was worried about putting mine back together but it was pretty straight forward. But I havent set the hood yet so I have no idea how aligned everything is. I will just cross my fingers and hope for the best

Well since paint I have been aligning panels and putting interior in and just misc. stuff after work. I still need an alignment after the 5 inch drop and a good cut and buff job. But shes turning out better than I was ever planning on for just a weekend cruiser. Here are some updated pics, enjoy.
