Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

WOW those brackets look good. I think i should have gone with the impala or camaro setup. I have the caddy kit from abspowerbrake and it took some work to get the caliper bracket parallel to the rotor. I think my axle flanges were not welded on perfectly straight. Has anyone had to use shims to get the impala ss setup to work properly?

These are for the impala calipers "94-96". These brackets are some quality pieces. They fit like a glove. Should be a nice set up when I'm done.

There is a slight possibility that shims will be needed between the new bracket and the OEM bracket to get the caliper centered over the rotor.

Okay. That makes me feel a little better about how mine is setup. Thank you for the info.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

Has anybody designed a bracket for the 10 bolt rear end to do the Impala rear rotor/caliper swap. Really want to do this at the same time I change the rear gears....TTT

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

I haven't heard of anyone doing up a set of brackets for a truck 10 bolt, it's not a common swap at all into our trucks.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

Hey ya'll, I have another dozen sets of Impala brackets cut and ready to ship!

A527 Gr. 50 steel, laser cut to perfection! They come with mounting hardware too.

Send me a PM for more information, or check the classifieds.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

Those look great!! I have a question for an easier mount-- could the brackets be cut, so they slide over the axle, instead of taking the axle out?? I have already done the brake mod, but didn't think about this until after. Also, if cut, would it weaken the bracket? Everything is bolted solid. Just a thought for people wanting to do this swap and keeping the axles in. What do you think? I think the kits are cut.~~~

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

I had thought of that before I started making them, but then Powell72 reminded me that the axles need to come out anyhow to get the original drum brake backing plate off. But if that has already been removed, I don't see that removing that section of the bracket can hurt anything once secured to the axle flange.

It will be very minimal, probably somewhere around 3/16" to a 1/4". Whatever the thickness difference is between the part of the drum that sits on the axle, and the same part of the rotor. I don't have a rotor in front of me to measure, so that is just a guess.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

Also for size of brake line and fitting to run, here's the response from 383Stroker~(thanks)

What size brake lines and fittings did you use on the rear brakes and did you have to use adapters? Thanks in advance.

They are the Impala SS or caprice police factory rear disc lines that I got from GM for about $25 ea. I used a weatherhead part# 1442 brake fitting adaptor that converts the metric bubble flare rubber hose female to 3/16" male standard inverted flare steel line.
The lines from GM come with the bolt and two copper sealing washers for the caliper connection where one frrom a parts house does not.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

Just so everyone knows, since a TON of people have been asking, I will be working on coming up with a bracket for the 93-9? Camaro calipers that have an e-brake. No promise as to when they will be ready, but my guess is about a month.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??

This might have been already discussed, but why is everybody wanting the e-brake? Is it because of safety or is it because you need it to pass inspection. I know in New York State, it wouldn't pass inspection if I didn't keep the ebrake.
