Re: Has anyone sprayed bed liner to their entire truck?

I worry about dents in the woods more than scratches.

Re: Has anyone sprayed bed liner to their entire truck?

Good pics and info guys. I was just throwing it out there. I am not smashing my truck into trees, but dont want to be worried about getting scrapes from limbs on old logging roads when camping. I will use it as a truck. I am thinking about just using a rustoleum flat black paint for ease of touch up. I do like the look of the flat color on these trucks.

Re: Has anyone sprayed bed liner to their entire truck?

i will probably do the chassis and underbody of my 72 burb with al's liner in a few years for sound deadening and rust protection. i want to coat my 87 ram 50 with color matched blue on the body and black on the chassis and in the bed so i can drive it all winter long and not have to worry about rust which those little imports are prone to.

Thumbs up Re: Has anyone sprayed bed liner to their entire truck?

Hey - I didn't do the entire truck, but only in the rock chip areas on mine. The color didn't come out to as good of match as I had hoped. The place that sprayed it for me had just started at spray lining. First they lined my bed-sides in black, then shot the red rocker area. I think there was some contamination in the system from the black. The first red coat was almost brown. I had them grind down and recoat it. That helped, but still a little dark. But I ramble on... It works good there, I just have to stiff brush the mud / dirt out of it sometimes, but the whole truck? Wow, not sure. When building the truck, I was just going to flat black it - to make for an easy mud / tree ouch repair. THEN things got out of control, and I ended with a polish job, chrome, carpet, etc. Look at my pics there are some shots of it there. DA.

Re: Has anyone sprayed bed liner to their entire truck?

If you are just looking for an inexpensive and durable paint job go to Tractor Supply Co buy a gallon of implement paint and a paint roller. When I was a teen a bought an old K5 out of a junk yard painted like that. I used and abused it for quite a while with no glaring marks in the paint(except the road rash on top from a night spent with Mr. Daniels). Your truck your choice! Just my experience.

I can't say whether or not this is true as I have not seen it with my own eyes, but I've heard that if you get any gouges in the liner that moisture can get trapped behind it and accelerate rust. Again, I cannot confirm or deny this, but it may be something to think about.

Re: Has anyone sprayed bed liner to their entire truck?

for a show truck or really nice classic, then you don't want to go with poly liner. but a less valuable "beater" truck that you still want to keep in good shape but plan to rack up lots of abuse and drive year round.....poly is king. you could do up to the belt line and constrast the top with a good paint job. that way the bulk of the sheetmetal is protected from chips and salt spray.

on my 86 aries wagon resto/mod project i plan to do the floorboards top and bottom with body color matched al's liner or line-x (they are the best from what i've heard) and do the chassis pieces in semi gloss black poly. i think i will do my entire 87 ram 50 (mitsubishi) pickup in poly to save on body work and so i can drive it in the winter without having rust issues (and to make it quieter). chassis and bed will probably be black and the body will be dark blue similar to the stock color.

some day i will do a body off on my 72 burb (doesn't need that much work right now) and do the whole chassis and underbody with poly. i don't plan to ever drive it in winter weather (except in emergencies) but i still want to protect it from moisture coming off the ground, grit off the road, etc and poly seals up metal better than any other coating out there. they showed in myth busters that it is even bomb resistant.

Re: Has anyone sprayed bed liner to their entire truck?

I had an 84 'Burb (454, 700R4, lockers all around, HUGE safari rack, 6" lift and 36" tires) that had been covered with liner. No idea what brand it was, but the whole time I had it I thought it was dark green. It was one of those purchases that you do just because its cheap... $2500, and that thing was a BEAST. Ugly as the south end of a north bound sasquatch, but a beast nonetheless... ANYWAY, the guy that bought it off me a couple years later cleaned the entire thing with Armor-All, and it turns out it was BLACK! I can't express how ugly this truck was, but it definitely made it stand out. People sure got out of the way on the freeway....

You're restoring a K car? Do they even make anything for it? Why? If i was to do one i guess it would have a tube frame and a Hemi when i was done.
