Re: Need to replace Cab Mount Supports...help

Progress going slow, due to NJ snowfalls. Pushed to get driver-side finished to the point that I could let it go and push truck out, turn around and begin passenger-side rocker repair. Still need to go underneath and finish any welding of supports, make piece of flooring that goes from rocker to cab corner inside, but that will be done when finishing pass. side....should go quicker than driver-side...I hope!

Ha, if you only knew how many are on that side. Might be able to use a little less on the next side.

Re: Need to replace Cab Mount Supports...help

Moving along on passenger side. This side I have reinforced with a piece of 1" square tubing because last time the back of the cab seemed to have moved on me. I think this setup may prove better. Had a little problem meeting the floor to the replacement inner rocker, so I added a 1" strip between the two, don't see where it will make any difference in support.
Tomorrow hope to finish putting dr. side bushings in so I can remove pas. side supports and then on to outer rockers. More days between work but that is due to snow falls and removal.
Definitely going smoother and quicker on second side, so far door off and on only once!

Re: Need to replace Cab Mount Supports...help

I have been following your thread, as I have been doing the same repairs on my 72 C-10 stepside. I feel your pain about all the snow we have been dealing with here in NJ....I'm in Warren County & we have about 2' on the ground now & snowing again today.

Re: Need to replace Cab Mount Supports...help

Success, final weld-ins, just got to pretty it up, bondo etc. Then onto engine build and replacement.
A thousand thanks to Molberg, one of the most talented, helpful members on here and all the others that lent support and encouragement.
Here's proof that if you really want to do it, you can...with "a little help from your friends"...on this site.
Thanks

Re: Need to replace Cab Mount Supports...help

Slowed down by an injury but managed to get back on track. Put warmed-over SBC in, cleaned and painted engine bay, replaced incidentals along the way and should be starting it up anyday now. Restoring Impala steering wheel as well.
Lesson learned: everything will be more involved than you figured.

Hey! You're back... Glad you're back on your feet brother. Looks great. Those rockers and jambs look pretty sweet too from what I can see. Nice job.

Looks good. Wish I had the patience to do what you are doing. I decided to go the full floor route. The engine looks nice. I like the color of the valve covers.

Re: Need to replace Cab Mount Supports...help

Well, it's been awhile due to back injury setbacks, but I have made progress even if slow.
The interior is almost done, the bed has been finished in a tinted liner and the oak is just fitted, yet to be finished. Getting there....

Re: Need to replace Cab Mount Supports...help

I had the usual amount of rust repair that needed to be replaced, the rear cab supports were so rotted, I elected to replace the entire rear support from left to right, I have to tell you, that was a chore! I had to level the cab on the floor, brace the floor to the cab rear wall, from the front door pillars to the floor, anything to keep the door jamb/perimeter from shifting once I cut the old rot out. I had to drill out somewhere in the area of 40 spot welds to free the cab rear wall from the floor/cab rear brace sheet metal, then set about cutting that piece out. here are a few pics of the amount of work I had to do..... I'm almost finished with the last rocker panel, then it's the cab corners and that chapter will be done. Off to paint in February!!! Yoo Hoo!
Have a good one!
