2005 Equinox - A/C
Not sure if this is really the right spot for this so mods please move it if necessary.
Has anyone replaced the A/C compressor and the associated parts to keep the compressor warrant in an Equinox? How hard is it? Any surprises?? My wifes A/C is leaking freon and the dye I put in is all over the compressor as well as a lot of compressor oil so I think that is the problem. Just wondering if this is something I want to tackle. Thanks.

Re: 2005 Equinox - A/C
calls for 1 hour for the compressor then one hour for the driver which includes removing and reinstall the driver head light, and .7 hour for the expansion valve

Re: 2005 Equinox - A/C
Thanks! Doesn't sound too bad to replace the parts. I'll have someone do the evac and flush/recharge and replace the parts myself.

Re: 2005 Equinox - A/C
So this is really not a bad job. The compressor is a little tight but accessible. You have to remove the belt which requires removing the air box. You have to remove the headlight to change the drier. That's the hardest part of that. The expansion valve takes 10 minutes. Just FYI for anyone who has an Equinox also.

Re: 2005 Equinox - A/C
glad to see you are doing the incidental parts as well. keep in mind some compressors have enough oil in them for the whole system. too much oil and it will puddle in bottom of evaporator and cause insufficient cooling.
I would drain it, add recommended component volume to it and accumulator and forget chemical flushing. the flush stuff WILL not all come out.

Re: 2005 Equinox - A/C
I actually just did the labor of the parts changing and let my A/C guy do the rest. I wanted to leave the fill/evacuation to an expert. Good point on the oil. He helped me with all that info so we didn't over fill it as well. It's blowing 37 degrees at the center vent on a 100 degree day so I'm happy.
