Glass polish ?

So i want to really clean up my new old soft ray windows and rear window. I used glass cleaner and it just doesn't cut it in some places. There are some scratches too I think i might be stuck with those and thats ok just want to get ride of the spotty areas.

I just read some posts about Bar-keep cleaner and green pad, or 0000 steel wool. What do i want to use with the steel wool, water or some kind of lubricant ?

Will any of these choices hurt the soft ray tint ?

Re: Glass polish ?

Ive had good luck with Bon-Ami brand sink cleaner, dont use Comet, its too abrasive. Id imagine really fine steel wool would work also, Id try it dry first and see what happens.

Re: Glass polish ?

I used a good cleaner polish and a buffer with a gray foam foam pad. The perfect it III was the one I used and worked great!!!

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Glass polish ?

This is a good question. I have never tried to polish glass and will also need to do it on my old glass going into my project truck. Also,my '85 Jimmy has scuffs on the windshield. Since this applies to all vehicles, maybe members with other years would like to see some answers. There's a message board for just this type of thing where I'm sure the best answers will be found if asked there:

Re: Glass polish ?

In doing a little research on this. the consensus of glass professionals was that cerium oxide in a slurry and a cotton felt wheel were what they used. Here is a kit:

Haven't tried myself yet.

Re: Glass polish ?

I just got home from the 2012 Power Tour and found a new product by Mothers that is specifically made for this. Mothers Water Spot Remover for glass, saw them remove some NASTY waterspots from a 2000ish TransAm.....

I had to have a bottle after seeing that!

Re: Glass polish ?

I have used Bon-Ami and Bar Keepers Friend, they are they same. They don't have the same abrasives that Comet and others have. Cerium Oxide may be the active ingredient in Bon-Ami. I'll have to check.

Nope! Baking soda, Feldspar, bio-degradeable cleaning agents, Soda Ash, & Limestone

I've used it 3 times with plenty of water and haven't scratched the glass yet. I've even used with glass polish before as well. You just don't bare down on it like your cleaning a wall in the house with it though!

Re: Glass polish ?

Glad you had good results with it, but the "cleaning" action of the eraser is the result of a micro abrasive. Abrasive as in fine sandpaper.

Re: Glass polish ?

My body guy had a kit from eastwood for polishing glass you made a past with this stuff and a tuff cotton ball at the end of the drill. Takes out small scratches too!!

Problem solved ! I had scratched I could feel with my finger nail, it took them down to where they were not as noticeable. THe old water spots are gone now moving to the rear window to get those spots off!!! GO East Wood !!

Re: Glass polish ?

my back window had a gun rack over it needless to say it has some deep gouges in it. with all the technology today can't someone come up with a way to fix those. other than that the rest should polish out. done venting. will be trying these methods soon keep em coming.

Re: Glass polish ?

these ideas are all good suggestions...... i too am trying to clean my re-installed glass & have very bad water spots. i was told by the glass guy that installed my front windshield that what he uses is CLR with a clean microfiber towel. the ingredients are supposed to eat away the actual "stain" of the water spot. i saw the commercial for the mothers cleaner & i am interested to see how it will actually work? i tried headlight cleaner (mcguires) and i was not impressed with it all.... basically just "shined" the glass up. definetly going to follow this one........
