Picked up a 6 speed trans for this yesterday, g56 from a 2007 from behind the 6.7 cummins so it should have the higher overdrive ratio. Can’t wait for it to arrive and get it installed. These nv4500’s have super wide gear spacing.

The g56 is very much worth it. Its like replacing a 3spd with a 4spd. Really nice for pulling loads also.

How's the swap coming along? Once the G56 goes in it will be a totally different ride.

The trans is shipped, its coming from Alabama, i would guess it will be here this week.
I have been doing some planning like reading up on assembly disassembly, i will open it up for inspection before install.
I have a dana 80 3.54 posi from a 2nd gen dodge that i will install at the same time, I'm tearing that down today and dropping the housing off Monday to have it narrowed. That was a future project but since i will need rear driveshaft work for the trans and likely the rearend swap i decided to do the rear at the same time.

Re: Crew Cab build preview...

This dana 80 is massive, its really hard to tell how massive it is until you have to handle the parts. The difference is more than the difference from a 12 bolt to a 3/4ton dana 60, its huge.

Re: Crew Cab build preview...

Transmission arrived today. This thing is huge. Seems to be in good condition, I took the shifter off and looked inside. Can’t see everything but what I could see looks good.
I was pleasantly surprised to see it came with the slave cylinder. The slave rod I believe is shorter on a g56.
They really cleaned it up nice which is a real time and mess saver.

Re: Crew Cab build preview...

I cleaned the garage so I can get the truck on the lift for the trans swap, it’s still prob a half day of moving stuff to get it inside but it’s doable.
Got my parts order from ORD. Spring plates, u bolts and traction bar kit.

If you would not mind when you do the swap. Get a picture of the 2 transmissions side by side. I would like to see the size comparison.

For sure will do that.
I’m concerned it won’t fit and side by side pic will help me look for clearance problems before I install it.

Re: Crew Cab build preview...

I have been thinking a rack would be handy for picking up 20’ steel at the steel yard. I also think i can haul a bare frame on it so i picked one up today. Its also the type that is wider for a canopy underneath. A friend gave me a vintage canopy so this will work with that.

Nice, are you going to keep it long or modify it to fit your bed?

Re: Crew Cab build preview...

I got to meet Randy in person yesterday as he is going to restore my console for me. Super nice and helpful guy. I’m all over the place with different Car and house projects and he pointed me in the right direction. Saw this crew cab in person and it is a sight to see. A dream truck for me as I’m a Cummins fan and have had 4 of them. Phenomenal craftsmanship.

Re: Crew Cab build preview...

Excellent build, I went through several pages of it. I have a 2wd 72 C20 that I converted several years ago to a Cummins/5spd set up and it's a blast to drive. Need to change my Dana 60 4.10's to some 3.55's but beyond that I wouldn't change a thing.
