Well it is the first letters that will allow us to identify the rear, in this case you gave HE, however I can't find that combo in my book. 1967, 1968, 1969 were the only years that used a 2 letter ID code and 1970, 1971, 1972 all used a 3 letter code. Are you sure that is not HB or something? That would be a 67, 68, or 69 1/2ton rear with 3.07 ratio. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Wes, Im pretty sure, Ill check again when I get home, but I definitely wanted to make sure I got it right. It would suprise me if it was an earlier rear end, this thing was 100% mickey moused when I bought it, you should see the birds nest of wiring Ive pulled out. But Im def not driving a 3.07, I wish I was. Any idea on the W at the end?

Hollanders shows HE as a 3.73 non-posi rear end out of a 65 C-10 which will fit in a 67-70 truck. Someone must have replaced the rear end at some time if the code is truly HE.

According to the book JJR is right, HE is a 1965 C15 3.73 ratio rear end. The 704 is the date code 7th month (July), 04 is the 4th day and the W means it was built in the Warren facility. Hope this helps. WES www.classicHeartbeat.com
