Son's PowerWheels Needs Reverse

I got my son a small power wheels last year that has already clocked many hours. He is now to the age where he can steer a bit and understand where he wants to go. It was a used Power wheels and I had to wire it to accept an after market battery. It now has two spade connectors to connect to the battery. Yesterday I accidently revered the polls and it was going back wards when engaged. That got me thinking about installing a toggle switch for switching to reverse when needed. If I had a 6 pole toggle would that be possible? So my question is how would I go about wiring this setup?

Use a DPDT(double pole double throw) switch wired like this.

You could use a single throw, not sure how hard to find and it would eliminate the middle "off" position, so it is either in fwd or rev.

will also need a very heavy switch to carry the amperage dont know how much that powerweel pulls but I bet it is moor than a light duty switch can handle. you would not want to get the little guy burned just my thought.

I think they have 30amp fuses. I googled this everything your should need.

Thanks guys. Last night I got it all wired up and it works great. I took him out on it tonight and he was actual getting the hang of using it to back away from obstructions. It is 6volt and I read somewhere that power wheels use the same motor for there 12volt applications as they do for for their 6volts. So I threw my 14.6 drill battery on her and man did she fly. He made a run up and back on our street that I had to fast walk to keep up. I put the 6 Volt back in and it will stay as I don't want to burn up the motor. The motor looks like a cordless drill motor, makes me wonder about retro fitting a drill motor in it when he gets a little older.

I put a 2" chrome exhaust tip coming out the back, two dummy spark plugs and wires, a fake NOS bottle, a real GM lap belt, Boe tie emblem on the front, a windshield wiper nob on the dash as well as a fake lighter nob, cut in a Chevy clock in the dash, reverse toggle,and other little details. It has been a lot of fun to work on with him.

Holy crap thats fast. Is it true that the powerwheels motors can run up to 20 volts and not burn up. I have a freind that said his sons 6volt jeep has been running of 12 volt for 3 years now with no problems.

My daughter has a Jeep that she had not ridden for at least a year or two now... but when she got the hang of it... she was drifting around the road/circle/culdesac in front of our house... she would come in on the wet grass and let the rear end break loose and hang on, usually she pulled out of it...

now she has a bike and she is becoming a little daredevil... yep shes our beautiful country girl...
