Can you guys help me identify this truck?

Today I went back to one of my old “honey holes” from 6 years ago to see if some of the trucks were still around and to see if I could find the owner. Couldn’t locate an owner. After some research I know where to look. Wasn’t able to enter the property so this is what I came up with from the fence. Unfortunately the tree has grown around the truck and has a little body damage.

Originally I thought this truck was a C/10. Now I’m thinking more like C/20-30?

Also I noticed it didn’t have a “C-20” logo. In place I swear it said “Custom Camper” but didn’t think they started making those until ‘68 (not sure why I think that)? Did some research and didn’t find much on a ‘65 Custom camper.

I also noticed that it had a chrome front bumper, the grille was the anodized aluminum and had aluminum hub caps. Like the “custom” trucks have.

Does anyone know what this truck is? Is it worth tracking down the owner?

Re: Can you guys help me identify this truck?

1965 has split rims so it's probably a C20. I'd say it's desirable if it isnt too rusted out. All the growth will assist the rust to get worse. Oh I just noticed that tree has become part of that truck...
Save it from the earth, it wants to go home to moma so someone will have to stop it or it's gone.

I wish the pics were better. I’ve never seen an emblem on this era of trucks that say custom camper.

I'd sure like to have those hubcaps, even just a couple or could even make do with just a single. Custom camper it could be a highly optioned truck. Auto, A/C etc.

Yes, the C.C. came with a host of comfort and chrome options as part of the package, but auto, ac were not automatically included. However this truck is a good candidate to have these options, and definitely worth investigating a little deeper to see if it has the auto, ac, power steering, power brakes, 327, tach etc.

Just go talk to the owner (in person if possible). Obviously he isn't too interested in it!~ Maybe he's not around any more or not too mobile, in any case this should be checked out. Bring a chainsaw, and a hedger and a trailer and start your project. A few hundred bucks just might do it.

Re: Can you guys help me identify this truck?

This is all great info and very encouraging! The truck looks very original and unmolested. However it does have a little body damage but from what I can see it’s nothing that scares me away. The pics I posted don’t show that well.

So the deal is, this truck is on a piece of land in an older and very rough part of town. There is no house on this piece of land and is surrounded by rental homes. I had to look the guy up on the county assessors map I’m not sure if that is too stalker like or weird to approach the owner at his home to have found him through the county assessor.

Not weird...people use the tax office all the time to track down owners

Re: Can you guys help me identify this truck?

I know others have already said this but It is definitely a 65 Custom camper.

This truck really looks like it could be saved or at least used for parts.

Re: Can you guys help me identify this truck?

Never hesitate on a deal like this. The owner could die, he could sell the lot, somebody else might see it and buy or steal it. Then you'll be kicking yourself for years (ask me how I know). Go knock on the door and be polite and say that you were interested in the bumpers and wondered if he would part with them. If he say, "Hell, you can have the whole damn thing" then grab it or work it any way you choose but don't go in with a low-ball until you feel him out or he may never respect you enough. JMHO.

Re: Can you guys help me identify this truck?

Agree with what others have said here--knock on the door, introduce yourself, tell him you were looking at the property on (street name) and got his name from the tax office, and that you'd like to talk to him about buying the truck to save it.
Be up front and honest. Don't low-ball him, and I wouldn't ask to buy just parts of it--nobody wants someone to part-out a vehicle on their property and leave the rest. Plus, he might think you're trying to scam him and say you just want to buy the bumpers, then steal whatever else you want off the truck.
Tell him you love these trucks, and would really like to buy that one from him.

Good luck!

Good point, maybe I didn't think that through.

In any case let us know how you did.

Thanks! I feel like that is solid advice! I will let you guys know how I do. The truck is an hour away in another town. I was able to talk to a friend in the town the truck is in and he gave me encouraging info. So the plan is to go the first part of next week! Super excited and really hoping the guy will entertain the idea of parting with it.
