Rear axle seals

I’m having an issue that I need help with. One of the axle seals started leaking recently so I went to replace it but I can’t seem to find a replacement.

2.25 OD 1.65 ID

I have searched high and low and can’t seem to find any seals for this vehicle.

1971 Chevy C10 short bed with tool box fenders. Coil rear suspension.

I think the diff is a 12 bolt, but I can’t find a seal that size for this truck. I spoke to the previous owner and he never replaced the diff. The one other owner was the city.

The diff itself doesn’t have a tag.

Re: Rear axle seals

Hard to believe a parts store cant match it...nothing special about it...are there any numbers on the seal?..sometimes there are ,,sometimes not....but if you mic the axle of, the housing I'd, and the width they should be able go match it...
Your thinking it's a 12 bolt...how many bolts are holding the diff cover on?

Re: Rear axle seals

They tried.

I mic’d the seal and those above are the dimensions I got.

12 bolts on the cover. That’s why I thinks it’s a 12 bolt however the seal they had for a 12 bolt doesn’t match.

S-11418 on the inside but that doesn’t pull anything up.

Re: Rear axle seals

If you have the part in front of you with a mic.

Try Summitracing.com. I have had to call them a few times for cross over parts for my LT1 350 swap. If you get a knowledgeable person like I got it really helps. Since I did not know or could find the right lingo for the fittings I needed.

Re: Rear axle seals

The old timer that finds the odd ball stuff for me wasn’t there. He’ll pull out his catalogs and caliper when the computer doesn’t work out. I tried 3 different parts stores and all of em failed.

When I tried to use the dimensions to find the seal, I was on my cell phone and it didn’t work for me.

I asked if they could use the OD and ID to find the seal and they all said no. I guess it wasn’t worth their time?

Re: Rear axle seals

Hard to beat the old timers....and getting harder to find one...our parts stores are staffed by kids that look to young to have drivers licenses..I kid em all the time about they mama's having to bring em to work...
