'62 Stepside

Heya,

Thought I'd get on here and share what I've been working on. And hopefully it'll serve to motivate me further on the project. Plus I've been on here lately getting ideas.

Got this pickup several years ago along with a mid 50's GMC that was rolled, and a 63 Apache. Started on it then another project got in the way. Now I'm getting back to it.

The Pickup:
(From Serial Number)
1962
1/2 ton
Made in Oakland, CA

The Plan:
Nothing to crazy. Just something to look nice. Probably get driven quite a bit for my classes once its drivable again. But also wanting to drive it in the local car show we have in my area.

It was my full intention to keep this constantly going, but that turned out harder than I thought. Uploading pictures and I'll make a "catchup" post then look at where am at currently.

Re: '62 Stepside

Already can't edit the previous post. I decided to use photobucket so I don't have to take the time to shrink them to the forums requirements to upload them, we'll see how well that goes over. :P

I seem to work on it fairly off and on, and I'm a bit OCD and couldn't bear to know that I painted some of it but had to leave a large spot unpainted for whatever reason.

So I stripped it down to the frame, alas I don't have pictures of the truck coming apart but will you settle for the pieces?

Did I mention I get sidetracked?

Was looking at fixing it up and messing with hardtailing the frame and such, it still sits pretty much just like that.

Then I get back to the truck:

Sandblasting the frame.

More sandblasting the frame.

Metal Readied the frame.

Painted with POR15, contrary to this picture it is completely painted now, and gathering dust and other things get settled around it.

And now I'll get to what I've been doing lately (probably later on tonight). I got the main portion of the frame done a while back, but I've been working on suspension lately. Which is a bit frustrating with the truck being a 62, feels like nobody makes some parts that I want/need.

Re: '62 Stepside

And since I caught up may as well stay caught up. Heres the past week or two:

More POR15:

And the past few days:

Want to get the arms fixed up and put back together, having a bit of trouble with the rivets, any suggestions would be appreciated. (OCD kicked in and I want it POR15'd nicely.)

Also I've been trying to find out if I should replace the shaft on the left side of the control arm (in the photo), or if somebody has found bearings for a '62 anywhere? Found the balljoints for top and bottom from CPP for ~40 each, just unsure how much the shafts matter. Also need to find the rubber bumpers for '62. :<

I posted this in Tyrone's thread when you asked the question- unless I'm not understanding you, it looks like LMC has what you need for the 60-62.

**edit** looks like it has the control arm seals, but not the rubber bumpers.

Re: '62 Stepside

Thanks. As for the bumpers I think I have managed to fine one but not the other. But may be able to cut a later year to fit. Or I just need more parts magazines! :p
