Emblems or Brackets

I have a question for you guys in the know. I am trying to figure out why I have holes on both side of my cowl that appear to indicate that some type of emblems were there or was it for some type of brackets that were installed on the truck? I found these holes with bondo squirting through them when I removed the cowl sheet metal to clean out the years of leaves stored in the cowl area. My truck is a 1970 C20 with a Camper Nameplate from the SPID. Thanks for your help!!!

Re: Emblems or Brackets

Most likely from a Dealer Emblem.

Re: Emblems or Brackets

If it’s one side it could have been a dealer emblem. If it’s on both sides it was maybe braces for a cabover like my c30 had originally.

Re: Emblems or Brackets

Thanks for the information guys. I seem to think now since the holes are on both sides that it is probably the dealer emblems. This truck came out of Canada so I need to find out from what dealership now. But they are on both sides, so maybe it was a cab over?

I agree with 68bowtie. Your truck was probably used to carry a cab over camper. Here's a picture of my '69 from 1970. You can see what amount to extended shock absorbers on each side that run from the camper to the cowl. The brand name of mine was Bounce Away. They were designed to reduce freeway bounce. Since they were dealer installed, the cowl attachment points varied in location. Similar devices are still made today.

Thanks. That picture was taken 48 years ago! Here's one taken this year. No more cowl holes.

Did you lower or raise either the front or back of your truck? I want mine to sit like yours.

Totally stock with original springs. Might just be the camera angle or the driveway may a bit lower at the rear.

Here's a different angle.

If the truck was built in Canada you can contact the GM Heritage site and get a printout of what options your truck had and where it was originally sold from.

Re: Emblems or Brackets

I'm sure the holes are from camper braces.
