67 chev truck tire sizing

i am building a 67 chev truck and looking to ideas on tire sizing choices we have tubbed the rear inner fender wells and looking at putting as big of tires as possible. i am thinking of putting 20x12 rims and Mickey Thompson 29x15x20 tires has anyone had experience doing that and any advice would be appreciated

Re: 67 chev truck tire sizing

I have a set of 29x15-20 on my truck.... Had to measure for backspacing and the wheels were built off of my specs.

Re: 67 chev truck tire sizing

I've got 19x12's, 6" b.s. w/345/30/19's on mine, so I can't really offer any advice on 20" tires, not to mention I also narrowed my rearend ('69 C10 housing). I will say make sure you have the bed put together and preferably bolted down on the frame as the truck will go down the road when YOU do the measuring. You are getting into a custom made wheel to get the backspacing right - you're looking at 7-7.5" bs on the rear with the stock width '67 rear and stepside bed, depending on how you want it to 'tuck'. But things with vary from truck to truck here and there when it's all bolted together. I dang sure wouldn't take a bunch of ppl's opinions from the 'expert' laden interwebs to order my wheels. You won't be able to return your shiny new high dollar custom backspaced wheels if you're off on the numbers...

BMF Peterson - your setup looks good!

Re: 67 chev truck tire sizing

Thanks guys!

As far as measurements I would have to look into it to find out I'm not sure off the top of my head. I would guess around 6 inches of back spacing but i will check and let you know to give you an idea. But I also agree that you just plain have to measure your setup cause they are all different. I've seen 18" wides on these trucks so I know it can be done.

Just thought of it but I'm pretty sure if your rear end came on your 67 it is narrower than my 71 by an inch or so.... that helps too

Re: 67 chev truck tire sizing

Just looked up my receipt and it shows 7.5" backspacing. I'm just finishing my shock brackets for the rear and then I am going to put my bed on and I will post pics.

Re: 67 chev truck tire sizing

thanks for the info our measurements showed we needed 7.5-8 in back spacing also so we are in the ballpark. what tires and rims did you use on the front we are thinking of going with 26x10x18 on the front with a 5.25 back spacing and same tires as you on the back on 20x12 with 7.5 in back spacing on the rear i think these numbers work but just wanted to see if others had made this combination work. Mine is not a true 67 we are just using 67 parts to make it have the look we want it is actually a 71 i believe. thanks for you time

Are these rear rims 12 wide or 14? The web site says you need a 14 wide wheel for that tire...

Also what size wheel and tire you have up front?
