NV4500 swap 1987

Has anyone done a SM465 to a NV4500 swap recently ? I am currently doing this on my 1987 K30. Most of it is going well and the trans. mount and drive lines fit perfect. I had a question on the studs that A.A. supplied with the spacer. I believe I read somewhere that they were too long. Anyone have any info ? Thank you

Yes I am. I have the spacer that is about 1 3/4 to 2" thick. They included all thread studs. After I posted this, I took a small pick and checked all 6 holes. 5 of them have a bottom, one goes into the case. I'll have to be careful not to let it screw in to deep and I will match the others. Now the problem is the spacer is not an easy fit on to the front of my 205. I am sanding it smooth right now.

i used red thread locker on the all thread / studs to help hold them in the case .

as much as they get for there crap you would think we would be getting real studs by now .

even with the spacer you need to cut a chunk out of the nv4500 adapter to clear the shift rail and linkage . pic looking down at the case from up in the cab .

Re: NV4500 swap 1987

I put the spacer on and I'm thinking that they really need to do some more engineering on it. I will have a friend that owns a machine shop around the corner, clean this up for me before installing. I have already cut and trimmed the end of my NV4500 where it meets this adapter. I also extended the Transfer case lever bracket and made a L shape on the end. It fits perfectly with bolt hole at about 2:00 position.

What year 205 do you have. The newer style (86-87) take a different spacer /ring. Mine has the 6 bolt, round front.

Re: NV4500 swap 1987

my friends was the 6 bolt round setup .

we used a offroad design twin stick kit .

if you have not make a 2 bolt tab that pickup the 2 bolts for the tail adapter to main case to help triangulate the shifter lever setup bracket . unless you picked up other bolt holes further up the side of the case .

Re: NV4500 swap 1987

I wished I had a working tranny jack. That must have helped. I used my forklift with a pallet strapped to the end of my forks. It actually worked nicely.

i use the Trans jack for gas tanks / trans / t-cases / support axles when doing suspension work / all sorts of stuff . this one is almost like a GREY automotive unit but 400 bucks cheaper . i know were the cheaper is ...... the table and its adjustment points are sloppy compared to a GREY unit .

Good to know. Luckily I have a big Hyster that does most of that stuff very well. I see Horseheads N.Y. under your name. Used to go to the Auto Auction there when I was a little kid. My Dad owned the wrecking yard in Honeoye. Many, many years ago.

MacGyver would have been proud of me and my engineering.
