Question Dana 60 Axles ?

Anyone here familiar with these ? .

We have a 4.12 ratio one now and would like to up grade .

Truck is a special order crew cab, long bed 3/4 ton chassis with a really high GVW as it was originally a sprinkler service truck for the highway department .

It's a V8 auto matic we'd just like to ease up on the fuel guzzling a little bit .

Thoughts ? .

TIA,

Re: Dana 60 Axles ?

I did not think you could get a 4x4 crew cab as a k20 only a k30. Either way, what is the engine and transmission combo? Also single or duel rear wheels?

Re: Dana 60 Axles ?

4.12 ratio ? ? ?

better re-check that . should be 3.73 / 4.10 / 4.56

more info on the truck like year / make / model / 2wd or 4wd / all this stuff .

and if i recall 3/4 ton in crew cab was only 2wd . and crew cab was same frame as a C or K version so the frame is 1ton spec .

and if its a square body crew cab its a 14ff if srw or narrow c&c axle drw or if wide drw its a dana 70 HD rear .

Thumbs up Re: Dana 60 Axle

THANK YOU guys ! .

It's a 2WD unit .

Not actually a GM product, a 1979 Dodge we're the second owner of .

We travel all over America in this old beat up but sturdy rig .

Single rear wheels .

8,200 # GVW IIRC .

I'll go check the ratio tag this week I hope .

What I'm hoping for is junkyard swapping info ~ I'm here in California where I should be able to find a good used drum to drum rear end cheaply once I know what to look for .

Thanks for taking the time to teach me .

Re: Dana 60 Axles ?

Didn't the dodges have dana 70 in the rear of 3/4 ton and up trucks? The first gen cummins had a 3.07 or 3.54 ratios offered, might be worth looking into those. Also a set of gears might end up costing the same as a junkyard rear end?

Re: Dana 60 Axles ?

Find a late model AAM 14B full float disc brake rear end with the gear ratio you want from a local salvage yard. New spring perches and shock mounts will net you 4 wheel disc brakes ...

THANX AGAIN for all the ideas .

I'll go check to ensure the axle is a 60 series, the FSM said it's a Dana 60 IIRC .

We don't want a huge project (I don't weld), the current brakes have never been unsatisfactory even when crossing the Rockies fully loaded so rear discs are not necessary .
