Question 1986 c10 gas tank and fuel injection

Hi, I have just purchased a 1986 SWB with duel tanks... yyaaaa. I will be doing a late model engine (2013-later 5.3/4l60) install. My question is can the TBI or regular factory tanks meet what is needed for the late model fuel requirements? IE: fuel pump and appertanances.

thank you

Yes, have a factory 87 tank (baffled sump) in my 84 GMC with a Holley Sniper system, which puts out 50-60 psi from a Walbro 255 pump set up on the factory sending unit, and it work perfectly...Dual tank set up should work equally as well.

I did have to adapt some AN compression fittings on the feed, return and vent lines on the outside of the tank, had just barely enough steel line to make it work....but it worked fine.

87 tbi tank / 87 tbi sender minus pump / acdelco ep381 pump direct install on tbi sender / compression fittings to nylon late model style fuel line / feeds my edelbrock pro flo 4 system just fine .

Re: 1986 c10 gas tank and fuel injection

All,
THANK YOU!! for the replies. So if I understand right I should be able to get/have a 1987 TBI fuel tank & run either the wahlpro or ACDELCO fuel pump to satisfy the fuel requirement for the 5.3 engine. and if I decide to keep the dual tanks it would just be double same set up.... right?

thanks!!!

Re: 1986 c10 gas tank and fuel injection

just make sure lines and switch valve are high psi rated for the efi system needs .

and like i said buy the sender minus pump as you wont be using the low psi tbi spec pump anyway .

Re: 1986 c10 gas tank and fuel injection

sweet,
thank you, I guess I could get most parts from rockauto? the '86 currently has a 305 but I am not sure if the truck originally had a TBI. the switch valve is what? is that something from a parts house too or specific?

thanks!
