ok i got a very good used short bed fleet side bedside for a very cheep price . i have been told that you can take one of these bed sides and cut it down to make a 1/4 panel for a blazer . i was wondering if anyone has any pics or tips to do this . i have a pretty good idea how to do it but i was wondering what every one else has done and how it worked out for them . i am not afraid of doing to much work becuase i want it to look good and to hold up just building a very nice truck to drive around in .

I bought a set of lifts springs from a guy that had replaced one of his bedsides with a shortbed panel.....looked killer to me....no idea how he dealt with the b pillar area.

yeah that is what i am wondering about is the b pillar area . just by looking at it i got a good idea i am just wondering how some one else has done this.

The B pillar would be a killer unless you can salvage the original and weld it into the new bedside. I watched a body shop to outer skin replacement on some cars and instead of doing the whole section including the wrap around the b pillar, they cut it about 1" shy and welded it there. They explained that it is much easier and stronger to do it that way--easier to hide the welded seam---never thought about it till I saw it done and they are right!!

As mentioned above cut your old panel about 1 1/2" from the door edge. Then what I would do is drill out all the spot welds from your old outer skin and remove it leaving the inner structure on the vehical. Then do the same for the truck SWB side. This will give you a good point to start for your alignment. Make sure the new panel over laps the door opening then take a .035" cut off wheel and slice right up the over lap thru both panels leaving a perfect gap for welding it up. Then spot weld it back into place and you are ready for filler and paint.

Nice work Nobby, any pics of it when finished? I don't think I could take mine that far apart. How come it has a low hump over the trans. or did you put that in. You are talented!! J.

Nobby~ Looks good, the only thing I plan on doing different is taking the panel all the way over the top so to avoid the top weld seam you are going to have since you can't get in their to work the welds. I assume you did it this way because you needed your top on to keep the floor section from moving?

I'll get some pics soon,I'm to busy at work to get by the shop.Kevin,my metal work looks like Ray Charles did it compared to what you are able to do.It really started out as an experiment and ended up coming out nice. I crimped the panel in on the body and out on the panel,then punched holes in the panel and got to welding.

Hey Jaros44,The floor was shot and I'm putting this body on a 2-wheel drive frame so I'm welding in a good truck floor I had.
