startup procedure?

my 71 is mostly back together, i need to start it and take it for a drive. its been sitting for four weeks or so, and i cant get power. i'm going to get the battery tested. i'm changing the oil and maybe going to clean the carb. anything else important that i am missing?

drained the oil, there was a little water in it, oh crap.

The water in the oil might be from something simple like having a leak in the intake gaskets. Check compression on every cylinder to make sure a head gasket isn't blown. Good luck.

changed filters, oil, fuel filter, cleaned carb, and checked plug gap. the problem is electrical. turn the key, nothing happens. no lights, no power to starter. i put the voltmeter on everything under the hood and have power, but nothing inside gets juice, so the problem must be at the fuse block. i'll figure it out tomorrow
