Got rid of wife gained a truck

Been sneaking around this site for a long time. First I must say thanks to everyone for the knowledge they share. Picked up a 68 swb stepper a couple weeks ago. Originally 6 cyl, 3 on the tree. Someone swapped in a wore out 305 2bbl. Taken care of that already. Got a long way to go and a lot of rust to fix, but I've got the time now. First up is disk brakes and a trans. Not sure if 5 speed or 4 speed auto. Will post pics soon..... Ex wife took the camera.

Re: Got rid of wife gained a truck

I got a truck ('72 GMC 1500 Super Custom) for a wife too! About 8 years ago!

Now I have a gal in my life that is dang near more excited about the GMC than I am!

Welcome to the wife and truck trade club. I replaced the old wife with a new one, and the new one bought me the truck. Ever heard of a win-win?

Congrats on what sounds like a pretty good deal for you.

A few months ago, as I was sauntering into Sears to pay down my massive credit line on tools, compressors etc. a guy taxied up in a ricebeater real slow, leaned out, and said (sadly) "I used to have a stepside like that. It was a '70. I loved that truck. The wife made me get rid of it. Now she's my ex."
I said, "See, that's why I never got married. I've had this truck since 1973."
I have a theory that Detroit had malicious intent when they started pushing the automatic transmission, "So the little lady can drive it too." If the b!tch could drive it away, and break her ex old man's heart in the process, it was a two shot for her. That way, the poor sucker had to buy a new truck. [Hopefully with a clutch that no self-respecting female would risk breaking her high heel spikes on trying to double-clutch.]

Re: Got rid of wife gained a truck

Hey my wife works on the truck with me! She tells me all the time "do what I need to it". She doesn't question if ill be smart with the money or not. An now I'm teaching her motors an mechanic work! I couldn't of picked a better wife. When I mention selling the truck she tells me no she likes it to much! I'm very lucky man an I'll never forget it.

My wife can bang gears as good if not better than me, her first drives were straight shifts.

Re: Got rid of wife gained a truck

My wife doesn't mind the trucks and has helped several times on the two person jobs. Now that we have kids I'm really excited about having my 3year old son help me out in the garage in a few more years. I think we're going to build a chevelle for momma.
