Outside Mirrors

Need a bit of knowledge here concerning a couple mirrors I have. Both have the same part number " 9826594 " , both with the letters " CBC " . One mirror has the number " 1 " cast in the base, the other has the number " 2 " cast in the base. One mirror head ( cast #2) is rectangular, 5 1/2'' wide,
has 10-DMI-2 on the glass and is 4 1/4'' tall. The other mirror head ( cast #1 ) has 6-DMI-6 on the glass and is more oval with rounded corners 5, 1/4'' wide, 3 3/4'' tall. Both mirrors use the same mounting stem and the same mount plate.

Is it just the fact with having same part numbers and they are different "series" mirrors? Believe they were mfd. by Donnelly Mirrors Inc. and the bases were cast by Bay City?

Can't do pics right now but will tomorrow when digital cam batteries are charged, LOL. The square bodies are a bit of an unknown for me, more of a 67-72 guy, so any help is much appreciated.

Re: Outside Mirrors

Added couple pics of the mirrors I have with both using same mount plate. Both same part number but rather obvious NOT the same mirror head. "Think" the more rounded mirror is the earlier style, 73-77 and the more square mirror the later 78-87 or so? Maybe the 1 or the 2 casting represents a re-design?

Any help to clarify same part number but different mirror would be appreciated.

Re: Outside Mirrors

Interesting. I have never had or seen factory sport mirrors, just the aftermarket, which is not even the same.

Re: Outside Mirrors

The square one is just like the mirrors on my 73 truck now which was from aftermarket supplier ordered for year model. They are left/right specific. I had a 72 which had same design but could be for left or right. The rounded one I have not seen before.

Re: Outside Mirrors

With the 7 digit part number the same, only difference being the 1 or 2 digit cast after the part number really think these are GM "cousins" so to say with a basic similar design but a different series.

Have had the 72 style Sport Mirrors which are very similar but have a riveted back with a rather pronounced ridge to the center and flaring outward to the corners.

That round cornered mirror looks EXACTLY like the stock mirror that came on my 1980 El Camino.

Re: Outside Mirrors

From what I've found on the internet it seems both styles of mirrors were used on cars and trucks both. Must be true if it's found on the internet, huh?
