Let me know what y'all think !!!

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

These are some new photos of the truck I have it up and running now. I have fixed the bed and now I'm going to start doing some bodywork to it now it's coming along way since the 2013 but I am still going to work on it

The truck is running good. It is running and driving perfectly it needs him some shocks and suspension work, but it could be a daily driver if all the rust was fixed and glass put back in

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

The truck is getting a new hood latch due to thendnobes spring bring broken off to where it won't secure the latch down all of the way

The firewall had near perfect factory interior paint. When it comes time for paint I will have that touched up and cleaned

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

At the local hardware store there is a display that shows probably 200 springs of different sizes with the standard number. I tried to find a link on line but could not. I just take the damaged spring down and usually find one exactly like it. Reason is designers use the standard to order off the shelf parts, cheaper than starting from scratch. If you have an Ace Hardware affilated store in your area or someone else that carrys Century Company springs you might look to see if you can just get the springs.

It's the other spring that's riveted into the latch. I have to buy just some temporary bolts to align the front end

Getting ready to have all of the rust repaired and the rust on this truck is out of this world and it is places you would never think. Damn, how ever I be able to put glass in it once I am done

Hi! loved the video, really shows what's going on with the rust n all, plus the good things too! Engine looks really good! You're right about rust in the most strange places! Are you going to do the rust repairs or have it done? Still an awesome classic truck~ keep up the good work!

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

Big update
I've bought all of the necessary patch panels for the truck and went the route of replacing the entire top of my truck with another one since mine is pretty much shot. I sold my Volkswagen in order to get all of the metal fixed and get the truck prepped for paint. The doors are pretty much done and I am not getting ready to send the bed off to get repaired and then it is the front fenders and then the cab. I've come a long way since first getting this truck and am ecstatic about finishing the restoration

I finally got the tailgate fixed and painted, all of the rims are painted but one of the rims will need a bend fixed and then re-painted

I am working at it slowly. Still trying to decide what I want the headliner and seat to look like when things are finished

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

Some more updates on the truck. I have tried updating my progress on my Iphone and for some weird reason it will not upload more than one photo, or it wont even let me post photos so I am having to do it on my Laptop
I took the dash apart and removed the vacuum wiper motor to make way for the new electric wipers. The bed is being repaired and I am going to be able to keep my original bed steps the bed will be mostly original except for the pieces that have been patched and a new front bed panel and cross sills. The front bed panels are being repaired as well. The doors are finished and ready for bodywork and paint. The truck is coming along fairly well

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

I have the truck almost apart except for the cab, inner fenders and the hood. Trying to debate on if I should buy the entire kick panel assembly since it is ate up pretty badly. I have been very busy lately and haven't been able to progress with this project but I am having the top and other things sent to me so that the cab can be repaired. I am going to replace all of the suspension and driveline parts. I'd like to put disc brakes on the front but I don't believe my original rims will fit them
Where can I find another grill for my truck, it's shot and is needing replacement

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

Wow based on that video of the beginning you are taking on a "project"!!!! - but with the sentimental value I can see why. It all works out if you just take it one piece at a a time. Ive found that if you get way to involved all at once, it becomes more than 1 man can handle!!!

Good luck on your build

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

Man I hate me some rust now. I will certainly pay a little more next time for the most rust free example I can get. It just slows me down so much. The good news is I do get faster and overall I get better - though I do have some patches I'm not real proud of. I just started in the least visible/important areas and saved the tough stuff for last. All done except a big brow repair across the front. I figure it's like this: It aint going to fix itself. Trudge on!

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

Hey everyone, I have made some progress with my truck since the last time
that I have posted here some odd months ago. I have bought a new A Pillar, Stainless steel cross sills and a new inner fender for the driver side, new bed steps and some other small items that will help me progress my restoration on this ole truck

My top of the cab came so that I can now fix my entire top of the cab

Enjoy, the photos

Re: Project "Schrum" 1959 Gmc 100

I am slowed down again to losing my job. Looking for another as I type this
however, I am sorta discouraged due to all of this rust. I just really want to
drive this on the road. *sigh*
I have nearly everything to fix the entire truck except for money to repair the
rust. I am curious to see how the top replacement will go, its making me a little
nervous and am wanting to find the perfect person to do the job. Sorta wish I
would've just bought another cab and swapped VIN plates. Because, this is taking
more than the cab is honestly worth, but the senti-mental value is what keeps
driving me forward

I'll keep updating as I do things to the truck, I also just bought front drums brakes
and new shocks. wasted money on those things and now I wish I wouldn't have but
oh well

Thanks for following this restoration over the years
