---Third row seat in a blazer?

Some of you may think this is crazy, but....
I was thinking about putting a third row fold down seat in my blazer. I would make it removable, maybe something like a fold down and up van or third row Yukon seat. That way I could seat more people in the blazer if I ever need to. The thing is I need something that can seat more than 4 people, but I don't want to part with the blazer and buy a new car/truck that won't be as neat/cool!

Any opinions or suggestions? Anyone ever do this? Pics??? Do you think there is enough room for a third seat if I move the rear seat up a few inches??

Thanks for all input- "(My hubby and I are disagreeing on this subject )
Diane

You'd probably have to move the current back seat forward. They make those fold & tumble seats for j**ps. that might work as a 3rd row. How are you/the kids going to get back to it?

I often thought of using four S-10 blazer buckets in the rear, it would allow access from the front to all four rear seats. Also you would have room between for carrying long stuff. Just a thought. I never measured for fit. The seats also recline.

3rd Seat

We've thought about that also...having three kids and all.
What about just putting in another "middle" seat belt?
The factory rear blazer seat I just picked up does have three belts. Seems to be a factory installation too.
OR, put in two blazer seats back to back, easy access to both

You CAN'T seriously be thinking of parting with that beautiful rig y'all have put SO much work into!!!!!

How 'bout goin to a bench up front + the 3rd seat belt in the back idea???? I had a 78 bronco (before I saw the light ) that had a bench up front and the seat back was split and folded forward enough to allow decent access to the back.

I really don't think we will sell it, we are just trying to deciede if we should drive IT, or find something else to drive daily...
I feel like we are putting the money in this blazer and we should enjoy it, but I am not sure daily driving this rig is the best decision. I also don't know if the best decision is to change the "stock" look and get a 3rd row of seats, or if it will even work?!?

First, I have neither done nor seen this done before. With that said, one thing you should and probably are considering is the width of the bench seat. The Chevy Astro has two full bench seats(seats three), but the other vans, i.e. Caravan and Windstars have a partial bench seat (seats two). This allows the passengers to have enough room to get to the back seat. Since this will be an issue for you, you might want to consider using these "partial" bench seats to allow for room for people to get to the back.

Never seen this done, just one more idea.

One other thing I just though of... I have a 1992 Chevy Astro van that I am selling really cheap. She looks nice and runs good but she's a little long in the teeth (160k miles). Because we are a family of five and it seats 8, I hate to sell it. We just bought my company car and my Blazer, so now have too manycars, she's gotta go. If you are interested let know. We are pretty close so it should be pretty easy to work something out.

Why not get some folding seats out of a landcruiser. They are small enough to fit behind the rear seat and they fold up towards the side. No lost cargo room and extra seats when you need them.

Im useing the back seat out of a 2002 crysler van Ill take pics tomarrow It is 2in shorter then the stock seat so you could easly modify a stock seat cover to fit it. I had mine redone to match my seats ots kinda cool I used the plastic trim that origanaly was used in the van and ordered the bars that the seat hook to from the dealer and have made new bukets to hold them in the blazer floor I havent welded them in yet but the seat is recovered and ready to go in. it folds down in to a bed and if you need to remove it you pull 2 levers on the back and it pills right out and has wheels to make it easy Ill post some piks of the parts tomarrow for you. I got the aeat and trim from the salvage yard for $40 and recovered it for $150 and the bars the seat mount to were almost $50.

[opinion on]

You guys have put so much time and energy into your restoration (and I'm sure more than a few $) why make the investment and then treat it like a daily driver?? It's gorgeous! Drive it, enjoy it, but don't feed it to the shopping carts!

Keep the Blazer a Blazer.

If you need it, get yourself a disposable minivan for a daily driver.

71RestoRod-
I think you are right...we decieded to buy a late 90's Yukon or Tahoe and keep the blazer for just a "special occasion" driver. I can't bear to part with it and sell it, and I think it would be BAD to drive it daily in a place like Washington- lots of rain and even if we don't salt the roads in the winter we sure dump the sand and gravel on them, and that can screw with the glass or a nice paint job. Thanks guys for all you imput!
Also- earl87gta I would love to see pics of what you are doing!

install 2 factory back seats, facing each other, straddling the wheelwells. Old Land Cruisers and Rovers did this. That's how we sit in the Army troop-carrier Hummers. Easy to mod, looks good, etc.
