1964 K10 project (K1404)

New here. While doing some research for my new project, I came across this great site. After admiring all the great project threads, I thought I'd share what will likely be a slow process on mine. I always regretted getting rid of my 2nd Series '55 NAPCO about ten years ago, so I thought this project would help appease some of the pain. I am only the 2nd owner (well, the pink slip was never transferred by the second guy) of this truck that was purchased new on 1-14-64 and driver 'til about 2006. The original owner was meticulous about paperwork, and I have records of everything ever done to this truck except gasoline fills. He even kept the original order form that I've included below. That's him in the first photo. In 2006 he completely tore it apart to perform a complete overhaul. If there is any type of gasket, seal, bushing, etc. for this truck, he bought a new one for it, and they are all in their original GM boxes. The truck has the optional tach and did have an original GM supplied Borg clock mounted on the dash that somehow didn't make it to me. The cab is in excellent condition less the cowl and floor rust that will be repaired soon from the cowl and floor from another cab. The engine, transmission, and transfer case have been rebuilt. First thing to go is the wheels and tires on it that will be replaced by a set of 16" (non '64 correct) steel wheels and a set of 7.5 x 16 Power Kings (I only have two of the original wheels). The plan is for an all original restoration. Let's see how it goes. More to follow.

Re: 1964 K10 project (K1404)

Thanks guys. The rest of the truck should clean up without any problem, but there are some issues that need to be addressed with the cab. Salted roads from all the hunting trips to Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Dakotas, and Minnesota over the years took their toll. The rest of the cab and the doors are in great shape. I have a donor cab with good cowls, lower door pillars, firewall, etc. (couldn't find the pictures I took of it), but I'll have to pick up a driver and passenger replacement floor panel since the floors in it are shot as well. I want to do all of the work on the truck myself except the sheet metal; I'm a machinist not a fab guy. One of my buddies at work quoted me $30/hr and about ten hours of work. $300!! I asked him how soon I could drop them off. Even if it took him twenty hours it'd still be a heck of a deal.

Re: 1964 K10 project (K1404)

Wow I thought mine was bad but I didn't have any rust in the Air duct panels.. But yea that's a good deal to replace them for that.. All the panels alone will prolly cost that if not more....

I think the replacement floor panels are about $50 each less shipping. Do you know if they're made in the USA or not? Is there a supplier that is for sure made in USA?

Sorry everything that I know of is aftermarket Taiwan, If you should find original GM it would cost a small fortune I'm sure...some of the panels work with some tweaking....

Re: 1964 K10 project (K1404)

I'll post this in the wanted section as well, but I thought I'd start here first. I only have two of the original 15x6 wheels he ordered for the truck. I'm going with the 16" wheels for now, but I would like a complete original set to put back on it eventually. Does anyone have three more like these they would part with? They are GM part number 337205. The width at the bead is 6" (of course), the overall diameter is 16.375", and overall width is 6.875". The stampings highlighted in white are easy to make out, but those on both sides of the stem hole read "K15 10 (stem hole) 10 XU". Are all wheels from the 1964 era all marked the same? Are these just run of the mill '60-'66 15x6 wheels? If so, I might be able to just find them locally. Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Jeremy

Note that you must be a supporting member to post a want to buy/for sale/whats it worth ad...other wise the mods will close your thread. Looks like yer in need of a donor cab.

Re: 1964 K10 project (K1404)

Yeah, I realized that right after I posted this. It'd probably be worthwhile to pay the $25(?) and try the want ads. I'll also continue to look locally. I have a donor cab to replace everything less a portion of the floors.

Regards,
Jeremy
