1970 Chevy Custom C Starting Problems

Hello, I'm new to the message board and I have a problem ---
I just rebuilt the distributor in my 1970 Chevrolet Custom C pickup. At first it started, and then it ran out of gas. I put more gas in it and now it won’t start. I replaced the coil, but now it’s getting very little power from the ignition to the coil and it’s not getting any spark from the coil. I took the coil back and was told it was good. I checked to make sure it was seated properly, but I'm still not getting any spark. Do you have any ideas on what to do next? I have already checked the distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter (new) and they all seem to be working fine.

moved to truck forum.
Welcome to the boards. Can you tell us if it is an HEI, or points type ignition system?

It could be as simple as no ground on the coil. For much in the way of help we need more details on the distributor and ignition.

Did it run before you worked on it? Did you remove and reinstall dist.? If the points open and close with proper dewell (28-32), the coil is good, the wire connections are good, and 12 volts at coil....... it has to have spark.

Double check the gap on the points.
Verify 12 volts to the pos.side of coil.
