Re: 69 fleetside project

I will hopefully be doing something never done before. Im really a stickler for origionality. If i was going to give the look i am going for i would just have to say more of a low buck hot rod than anything. Some preformance aditions, it will be lowered. I just ordered cab corners and rocker panels, Should get them today. Also ordered a brand new miller welder w/ cart and a bottle. Needless to say it will be a little bit till i can buy more parts after these purchases!! Heres whats done so far!

i will have to replace some bed rails and treat the frame and bottom of the bed i was thinking of using POR-15 for the frame and underneith the bed. Dont worry that ugly farm bumper is off there already!

Re: 69 fleetside project

OK well after some time in the garage last night i was pretty stoaked to get my cab corners and rockers so i went out there to see if i could set them up so when i get my welder (supposed to today!!!) i could just go in and weld em up.... WELL i must have misinterpreted the damage the rust and corrosion through 40 yrs had taken on this thing. I will have to replace some cab supports, ok.... all four of them. and the lip of the floor pan that the rocker connects too, for it was victim of time and torture and returned back to the earth.

So if you see the pictures and know of a simple/cheap/effective way to make all this possible let me know! ALWAYS open to suggestion. I priced the lip for floor from LMC truck it was like 10/side. Priced the whole rear cab support that was 150 and the slip on front cab supports were only like 20 bux, I already have one from a generous donation from a buddy that has a 70 that is his daily driver (my inspiration: thanks Rick!) Wish me luck that i can get these things in a timely manner and get this rolling time capsul back on the road!

Re: 69 fleetside project

Re: 69 fleetside project

I mean like burn a piece of steel in there. Like from door jamb to door jamb.
Like the length of the rocker.

Re: 69 fleetside project

awh man i thought that was the thread owners 68 but it looks pretty decent haha.

is that a 3/4 ton haha i would edit and remove them just so people dont get confused.
i bet your gonna have a good time finding another set of 8 bolts.
but i like it. i wish i had a 67-68 clip for my see ten cause i really dont care for my 69 grill. i just think that 67-68 clip looks cleaner and is more original plus the shaved makers would look correct besides for my large window.

pretty clean tail gate on that old girl.

lets see some progress pics. young gun. and how old are you dood?
can you take pics of the floor under the gas tank and some pics of the driver side floor.
and kick panels and the area under the dash of the kick panels and where that little air door is.?

and im wondering what patch panels you have ordered? and what ones your going to make. just a list of them would be cool.

Re: 69 fleetside project

Well i've ordered and recieved Rockers and Corners for both sides.. I priced out the OE cab supports, total cost is about 80 bux... And my buddy who has the 70 is going to help me out with the floor patching. we are going to use his as a reference and hammer them out by hand. Like you said im keeping it as Low buck as possible cause simply i have to! For the that little lip on the floor where the rockers sit (thats no longer there) im just gonna buy some L steel and burn it in there. The back brace for the cab is sturdy and not rusted through. All the cab supports are as you can tell by the pics. So pretty much everywhere i see a hole i will be patching so no worries there.

Funny you mention it i have already started tallying all the cost. haha I have good people to help if i need it... all Old school hot rodders. who do things the low cost way because thats what they were used to back in the day. Its pretty neat to hear old hot rodder stories... anyway, the cab is by far the worst part of this build everything else is solid and needs minimal if any patch work.

As for my age I guess im not that young. 24, im used to being the young guy around here. Not to many guys my age are into the older rusty stuff. They are all into the nice shiney brand newest car out there. Not my style particularly so my crowd is usualy guys at leat double my age. Guess i dont deserve the name. seeing how there are guys younger than me on here.

Re: 69 fleetside project

as for the drop im looking at 2-1/2 front 4 in the rear. not much i got smaller rims and will get mid profile tires so it will give it a nice lower look. Didnt want to go to crazy for this will be my daily driver when it is all said and done.

Re: 69 fleetside project

sorry about asking about that 68 i thought it was in your sig. hah
keep the floor patching as low buck as possible. your also going to make the back of the rocker?
what about your a and b pillers? mine where gone and i had to order them.
i know patching seems like a big task and you just want to be done with it but be sure to take your time and have a good attention to detail. making it look as stock as possible.
so your going to start patching sooon? what kind of welder do you have?

yeah your no young buck ha.. im 17 and i know there are a few other guys as young as 14 on here. but its cool that you know some old hot rodderz that are willing to give you a hand. and who doesn't love a good story?
my dads 53 and he still likes that old rusty stuff. its got some character and any guy can go to a car lot and pick out the best junk there but they still wont have as much fun as we have fixxing these old girls up and driving them!

keep at her old buck! i cant wait to see some progress on this one.

any idea what color your going to go with?

Re: 69 fleetside project

The pillers look decent and i got enough good steel on the rockers for the back of them so wont need to worry bout those. As for color.... well i have a direction im going.... And im my head it looks amazing, So we'll have to just wait and see on the outcome. The idea just came to me and i think its going to def be something that has never been done before and will be a pretty neat ride. Im going for an old irish style technique, I wont go into details quite yet becuase alot of the ideas are still being worked out in the my head. A buddy of mine said... "so its like if a angry lepercauhn were to make a truck" that phrase would best describe it. But dont worry its not going to be some cartoony flashy gawdy POS. What i would describe as "Orange County Chopper" esk.
