running rich

began driving my 2001 Camaro SS 5.7. Notice poor gas mileage. Also can smell what I believe is raw gas while idling. Do I need a computer tuning or any ideas why i smell this. In the old days it would be called running rich. Thanks It is a stock LS1 no mods.

Re: running rich

You don't tune to fix a problem. If it's bone stock and doing this, you have some sort of problem that you need to find out what it is. Put a scanner on it and check for codes. Could be as simple as oxygen sensor gone bad, or possible temp sensor that isn't working right and it thinks the engine is colder than it is.
