Plastic Model Truck of 1978 Silverado

I want to find a plastic model truck (like Revell or Monogram) to modify and paint like my truck...

All I am finding is the 50's or the 90's models...
It doesn't have to be a 1978 Silverado, but I want the 73-78 "L" bodystyle with round headlights.
I know I saw one of these in wal-mart YEARS ago, but I cannot find it on the internet now. (My Google powers are failing me!)
Thanks to any and all who help!

65 Model truck - http://www.revell.com/model-kits/trucks/85-7210.html
99 Model Truck - http://www.revell.com/model-kits/trucks/85-7200.html

UPDATE: These models seem to all be out of product...
I wonder how hard it would be to make these plastic body panels myself?
Would there be a demand to ressurect these model years for guys like us who want to see what a build could look like?
Maybe there is a business opportunity for me here?
Sell models which can show how 4-links go into place, air-bags, etc...?!
Thoughts?

Go to eBay, they are on there quite frequently. Here is a page on my site with some of the ones I have seen over the years, should help you on your search.

Roxors! Thanks a million for the link.

I cannot see model numbers on any of these boxes, so that might make it tougher, but I'll keep an eye out on ebay.

Why are there no 2 wheel drive fleetsides?! GRR. :-)

Holy cow!

I guess the models bigblock73 shared are all collectors items and thus are going to cost $40 - $120 dollars?!

I wonder how hard it would be to make these plastic body panels myself?

Would there be a demand to ressurect these model years for guys like us who want to see what a build could look like?

Re: Plastic Model Truck of 1978 Silverado

I just emailed Revell Customer Support:

Quote:
Greetings,

I am looking for model of a 1973-1978 Two Wheel Drive, Fleet side,
Chevy Silverado.

I found a link to some OLD models you used to make
(http://www.73-87.com/7387_Novelties/models.htm)
but these things are collectors items and cost like $100 on ebay.

Do you no longer make any of these models? Or are they just harder to find?

What is the legality of making these models?
I understand it would not be a huge market,
but if I decided to start making my own models
of these chevy trucks and selling them,
is Revell or Chevrolet going to sue me?

Re: Plastic Model Truck of 1978 Silverado

My oh my.

There never was a 73-80 Fleetside shorty or longbed produced. Only shortbed stepsides were produced until MPC came out with the 84 GMC 4x4 Fleetside shorty as The Fall Guy kit.

If you are wanting to pull off the build, you will need 2 kits: The 1984 GMC and a 73-80 Street Machine kit.

If you are really looking for one, I'll keep my eyes out for them at shows.

Don't think I can afford it man.

That would come to almost $200 I'm betting.
I can put some nice parts on my truck for that kind of money. :-)

I am going to seriously look into the legality and possibility of manufacturing some of these models myself.

I think it would be awesome to have a "stock" truck which you could then buy modifications for, like an air bag system [that actually worked?! :-)], lowering kits, shave kits, etc...

I think a lot of guys would buy these, or have them made, to better express their desires.

It would be even better than a 3-D rendering as you could show every angle of the truck for very little money.

Picture the custom exhaust and everything you could show, plus swapping out different wheel/tire combos?

Re: Plastic Model Truck of 1978 Silverado

the kits are out there. just look on ebay under "models kits" then type in every year that you could use, at one time. then also look for just chevt model kit and GMC model kit. I just picked up the black mid 70s era step side from revell last week for $9.00 bucks.

Re: Plastic Model Truck of 1978 Silverado

I actually have both kits and I spent under $50 for the pair. Sadly the 73-80 has been badly butchered for another project and the 84 GMC is slowly becoming my 81 Chevy I sold recently.
