67 for me too

I always wanted a 67 - 72 chevy short bed, 1/2 ton, V8. So I went out and bought a GMC 3/4 ton, long bed, 6 cyl. I know some wont like it but I just love the 67 - 68 chevy grill and since my GMC was not in very good condition I found a 67 chevy grill. I bought a chevy van to get the 350 and 700r transmission. I'm still not sure about the 1/2 ton short bed yet, but the 3/4 ton long bed is growing on me so I bought some wheels and tires for it and will run that way for a while. If I find a good frame and running gears for a short bed 1/2 ton I may still go that way at a later date. Just swap motor and body. Either find a good bed or shorten mine. Right now all I need to be on the road is exhaust built. The body is pretty good, all I replaced so far is the rockers and sanded and spray bombed the roof because it had a lot of surface rust. The cup on the right fender under the battery is gone and will need to patch or replace the whole fender. Future plans call for new paint but let the funds build up a little to keep the wife happy for now. I know you all like pics

The best thing about this "hobby" is that it isn't about what other people think. It's your ride, build it the way you want it to look. I agree with you though, the 67-68 chevy front end was the best looking of the 67-72 trucks. What you could do, is find a cool looking GMC emblem and put it in place of the chevy bowtie. That will make people who know these trucks think a bit, esp if you do it cleanly and make it look factory.

As far as the long bed goes... it's still a '67. These were one year only trucks as far as the small rear window and sans side marker lights. It will be cool no matter what.

Good luck on your build.

Don

I agree with Rick, Welcome to the club, however, sorry Rick....

TEAR THAT SUCKER DOWN!!! Phew, sorry... at least make sure it's sound, but the sooner you tear into it, the sooner you will be done. Any amount of time or money invested in your truck will not be wasted. Build it the way you want it... but at least DO SOMETHING WITH IT! Don't just leave it alone. Make it yours. Good luck!

Re: 67 for me too

Well I've done away with some of the PO's customizing, he had some kind of stainless wire mesh over tail lights, back window, and grill. That left me with a bunch of holes to file around the back window on the inside. The 2-speed power glide was one of the first things that had to go, wouldn't shift till 50 mph. I converted the newer 350 fuel injected motor to carberated and HIE distributer to replace the 250. The paint looks better in the pictures than it really is. Its soon to be a driver when the exhaust gets installed.

Re: 67 for me too

A little update on the truck. I changed the paint a little and will be putting on the molding as soon as I find some. Been looking for used but may bite the bullet and order new. I painted myself and is not show ready but will look ok going down the road. I'm ready to do some wet sanding and buffing, then put everything back together. Dark, rainy day so pics aren't very good.
