Re: how big is the gas tank behind seat

most are about 21 1/2 gallons.
There were some that were 16 - 17 gallons, but there is no documentation of it anywhere.

Mine's a 72 Chevy, but I have put over 20 gallons in it (or at least that is what the pump said).

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: how big is the gas tank behind seat

I have never been able to put more than about 15 gals in either of the tanks in my 72's. Maybe the gauge is off slightly....of course, I have never run them bone dry either!

Re: how big is the gas tank behind seat

I dont know if it carried through to the 67-72 trucks, but i worked for a company that had alot of 1964 gmc's. The v/6 trucks had a 20 gal. and the l-6 trucks all had 16 gal tanks.

Re: how big is the gas tank behind seat

I have a '68 C/10 with factory L6 [292], the stock tank has taken almost 22 gallons. That is with the drivers side wheels higher than the passenger side -- kinda like filling a tall beer glass from a keg.
I like the in-cab tank a lot better than the tank in my K/5. It fills fast and doesn't 'burp'. Plus there's that element of danger. I'm bad because I'm leaning back on 20 gallons of highly flammable liquid, and I don't give a damn.

I also keep a spare can on the passenger side floor just in case. You can't have enough fuel in the passenger compartment.

Mine takes about 20, also. I like smoking in the cab of my truck and then throwing the cigarette out the window past the filler neck where the fumes are. Mine is going to the back too in a few weeks.

Re: how big is the gas tank behind seat

Now that I know it holds 20 gals instead of 14, I am going to set my ashtray on top of the tank on the passenger side. That way I can rest my arm across the top of the seat and ash at the same time.

Thats why I'm moving mine back asap.

**** burning down in the truck, known too many people to get ****ed up/ die in vehicle fires. The only thing I am paranoid about. and all that ****ing gass right behind my back seems stupid.

Re: how big is the gas tank behind seat

Okay guys since we're talking gas... tell me about the gas gauge.

When your tank is full, does the needle go past the white dashes into the black portion to the right of the Full mark? Or is it supposed to stop at the last white dash on the top right of the gauge?

If you can't tell, my old truck's gauge never worked, but my new truck does. Just trying to figure out what it's like to own a truck with a working gas gauge...

Mine stops right on the full mark. I also have a repop sending unit, cause mine quit working a few years ago.
