The inner section is slightly different. I believe the first pic below is a pic SSTim made - but it highlights the vertical separations on the 70. Also, the outer grille is either repop or NOS, but not likely original to the truck. Note the difference of the black lines between the headlight and turn signal on these the originals and the truck in question. (EDIT: added two more pics after the white truck in question. The red truck is a 69, the white is a 70.

Dave - correct, the 70 is not reproduced, and the 69 that is reproduced is often marketed as a 69-70, further confusing the issue.

Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds

Here's a picture of the inner and outer grilles put on my '69 after an idiot slammed into the front of my truck in early 1972. Looked just like the one on the Craigslist truck. Both were genuine GM parts. I removed some of the black paint on the center bar (reduced the width of the horizontal lines and the paint adjacent to the parking turn signals) to make the outer grille look more like the original.

Based on the paperwork posted with the ad, that is definitely a '69.

Not to muddy the waters completely...but with regard to the inner grille for 69-70, what is reproduced is really a mash up of what came from the factory. It looks more like a 69 from a distance because it is solid silver/argent. But it does have MOST OF the raised bars embossed on the 70s. So it's sorta cast for a '70 and sorta colored like a '69.

Here's a post from our build thread that illustrates the repro version more closely:

Go to the whole thread to see how we made it look like a 1970.

I agree it's a mix of 69 and 70. And... I've thought about sanding the raised bars off mine so it would be correct for my truck. I've never studied a repro inner grille, but I'm not sure it's painted correctly for a 69 either.

EDIT: Hmm, this should probably be a separate thread subject.

thanks very much for the replies - I learn something new every day on here. This is good news in case I ever pounce on a 70... Seems odd that they would make the replacement part with a different number of embossed (or debossed, or whatever) vertical separators, regardless of the solid coloring - kinda makes it not match either grille perfectly. Still a good thing - thanks again.

Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds

who knew compton had a french quarter?

btw, if any of that brush equipment works, it's well worth much more than that..

eta; found pictures, you have no idea what it felt like getting this over the phone 1800 miles away..

mom and neighbors held it off for 30 minutes until FD arrived..

they buried their brush rig to the frame but got close enough put it down before it spread to the barn..

69 Big block automatic truck $11500. Not mine but I wouldn't mind it in my driveway. I'm a sucker for rigs with service boxes. Too bad they didn't post the SPID.
