Re: SBC 350 & TH350 Rebuild Almost Done!

Tailgate trim installed and gate on truck. Looks darn good, even with no paint!

Next up, tailgate off to Paint & Body!

Top new, bottom old. Brother explained they got the trim a wee bit too low and is pissed about that. GMCPaul's Tailgate Appliqué came with all the hardware and good instructions but the chrome trim did not. He used the assembly page I found (different 67-72 forum posting) but he thinks the bends threw off their measurements. I'll throw those up here in my posting, since I had a bugger of a time finding these scans from the assembly manual.

Re: SBC 350 & TH350 Rebuild Almost Done!

The next day I tore the dash/cow apart and has been in bits since - waaaa! I have been waiting on the USPS for all my needed parts, what a PITA! My family members have been laughing at me! They ask, "WTF man - can you not just leave your truck alone for a day?

1. Washer Pump fix - decided on engine back tank/pump (completed).
2. Can't re-install Wiper Motor with out new seals - they feel into a thousand bits on wiper removal waaaaa
3. Since I took off the cowl to get the wiper motor I am install LMC Cowl screens YAAAY ME!
4. Now have Side Mount Tire mounted - YAAAAY ME!
5. Radio Removed, ready to send off to be "upgraded".

Re: SBC 350 & TH350 Rebuild Almost Done!

So some bumps on my overhaul, had to have my O'Rings replaced (had Umbrellas added too) and the TH350 has been a little leaky. And I've ordered a new Turn Signal Switch from GMCPaul's as I am pretty sure mine is not happy inside. But I have replaced my headlight hardware this weekend so the headlights are not moving anymore and I think I finally have a good Vapor Canister installed too, after rebuilding one! All and all she is a dream to drive!

As to the bumps, can't really blame my brother and if I was closer to him he would have corrected anything I was complaining about. In the end I am still ahead, cost wise. Anyways, see the current photo of his shop - business seems good and well, Chevy Trucks are not his speciality ;-)

Oh, and I added eye hooks to the bed too this weekend! Many thanks to DeadheadNM!

Unhappy Re: RIP Ron

I'd like to give a shout out to Ron (fellow the right of my brother), who passed away this morning in ICU Care from COVID. He had been battling it for a few weeks, which the last week he had been in a coma.

Ron has been a pillar to the Ford Model A community for decades with his work on these old Ford motors (amazing what he could so with a old flat top engine). He assisted my brother Nate with my SBC 350 rebuild in his shop. There has hardly been a conversation with my brother where Ron wasn't brought up or he was calling from Ron's shop. Heck, I even rebuilt a Electromagnetic Pinball for Ron some years back that he had let linger in his shop for years (his wife was sure it wasn't ever going to be playable again). He was great with engines, not so much with Pinball Machines and told him never to touch it again LOL!

RIP Ron, you will be sorely missed. I am glad I was able to visit with you and your wife a few months back at the Model A Text Tour in Longview (and rib you on my valve seals too) :-)

Bummer about your friend. Every time you look at that engine, you will think of him.
