Dome light connection in fuse panel

My 84 Sierra didnt come with a dome light, so Im installing an LED light on the ceiling, and thinking I need to run a toggle switch, but is there any way of tapping into the wiring to the headlight switch to make the light come on when I turn the knob all the way to the left?. If so, where do I tap in? I added a picture of my fuse panel for reference

Re: Dome light connection in fuse panel

As per the wiring diagram for the 84 GMC the courtesy lights are powered by the tail light fuse, full time hot, by an orange wire to the courtesy and dome lights and the headlight switch for the tail lights.
They are switched by the door switches and the headlight switch on the grounded side by a white wire from each of these switches.

If you want to wire yours like you say, you will have to pull the headlight switch
and locate the terminal which grounds to the switch housing when you turn the knob all the way then run a white (or any color you choose) to the ground side of the LED. If you run a toggle switch to the dome, you can simply run a wire from a ground to the toggle and then run it to the same side as the one from the headlight switch.

Remember that LEDs are polarity sensitive so you run to the positive side with the hot wire and the ground side with the wire from the headlight and toggle switch.

The wires to the courtesy lights are shown on the lower left of the 1st diagram.

The second one shows the wiring to the rest of the lights.

Re: Dome light connection in fuse panel

In the second diagram I notice that the fuse panel has a fuse for the horn/dome light. it is full time hot so you could run your dome light off that fuse for the power side.
