Did the 1971 402 come with spark plug heat shields?

Seen them on a few, but from what I can tell from the 1979 parts book, every shield mentioned excludes 396 and 402.

Not sure if this will help you. My '72 402 originally came with the heat shields.

Re: Did the 1971 402 come with spark plug heat shields?

Refreshing my memory now looking at the pics I took when restoring the truck almost 10years ago.
This is how the 402 engine was equipped regarding spark plug heat shields.
Only the plugs to cylinder 3,5 and 4,6 had them.
Not saying this is the original set up but it was how the otherwise pretty much untouched engine looked like.

Mine has all (8). Also, when I've seen them in catalogs, they sell as (8) to the set.

They all the same John? I've seen one block where some were shorter than the others, to make room for the heat shield. Don't know if it was factory correct.

Re: Did the 1971 402 come with spark plug heat shields?

I typed 1972 chevy big block spark plug heat shields into the search bar and lots-O-hits came up.

I even saw a NOS set on E-bay.

As far as all the same size? I don't believe mine are. I think (2) are larger than the others. Although; the few I looked at online seemed all the same size.

I've been contemplating the NOS set. They don't seem to be able to produce a part number. Yes, all on the web are the same. I don't know if they're correct. At this point it doesn't jive with the parts book.
