rear floor mat

does anybody have a picture of the original rear floor mat? 64-66.
i vaguely remember what it looks like but it has been 30+ years since i tossed the broken remains of mine in the trash.

i ordered a replacement for my front mat, and am thinking that if enough of my original front mat is intact, i may be able to cut, splice, glue enough of it together to make a rear mat.

Here's some pics of mine. Came out 65 of GMC. There may by a few small pieces on the edges that are missing as it was extremely brittle and pretty weel stuck to the floor when i took it out. Hope it helps you.

That open rectangular area between the left and right sides is actually missing. The original middle mat is continuous and has a molded, slightly raised area there. That mat in my 46K mile Burb was intact and near mint, but crispy as a cracker and started breaking into bits even while the truck was being transported to my house. At least I got to see it once (pre-purchase) before it disintegrated.

Re: rear floor mat

There are companies that you can find on the internet that are willing to take on short-run custom orders, but it takes a lot of calling/emailing to find them, and I've never taken that time for this piece.

That being said, if you find a company willing to do it, definitely count me in on that run!

If I recall correct , the center rectangular area had the same texture as the borders, not the squarish pattern of the center of the mat.

Yep, only lightly textured in the middle with little detail.

Re: rear floor mat

i am still looking for more pics of rear floor mat. I have an idea of maybe getting one digitally printed if i can find a good pic or make a photo shopped pic.
or i may cut up a front mat to try to make a fake rear mat. I have some experience making latex molds, if i make a fake rear mat i think maybe i could make casts from it.

i want a original style rear floor mat so bad, that last resort may be hand painting one.

Re: rear floor mat

Here's one of the middle raised area. I'll try to find more pics. The bumps and low depressions are not in the mat itself, just telegraphing the floor and bolts underneath.

Re: rear floor mat

thanks for the photos.
i think i have the shape figured out.
i cut a template from rubber membrane roof stuff i had laying around. when i finish fitting it and cut the holes for the studs and seat belt anchors i think it will make a good temporary rear mat while i search for a thicker mat with texture that looks closer to the original.

i cut a piece of mat to make the hump, glued it in and covered the seam with gaffers tape, thought it sort of looked like the original mats border, so i went all the way around with tape.
until i find a more original looking textured mat, this will serve well, i do need to paint the back ledge the floor color.

Re: rear floor mat

Interesting thread. Your progress is looking good. I just purchased a 64 with no mat in that area. I would be interested in one if you have them made, and they become available.
