Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Lots of work done recently to get the old truck back in daily service. No power steering was the biggest factor keeping me from daily driving it. Here's a before and after of the engine bay:

That must have been a ton of work with the engine still in the truck... any tricks you can share? I just noticed alternator has switched sides, why ?

Oh no, engine was out, minor rebuild, steam cleaned and some bits painted. Alternator moved to provide access to the power steering fluid reservoir. May be other reasons, I'm a checkbook wrench. I much prefer to drive 'em than work on 'em.

Truck has been idling ROUGH all of a sudden. I pulled off the air/fuel mixture screws(Edelbrock 1406) and those puppies were covered with a bunch of gunk. Cleaned those off and the truck idles a little better now. I think I need to give the carb a good cleaning and adjusting though.

Added some C10 emblems and took the boy out for a ride. Can't beat 75 degrees in February.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Today I finally had time to start polishing the trucks paint. I'm happy with the results from a few hours of work, its not exactly super shiny by any means but its a huge improvement over how oxidized the paint was. It at least looks like the trucks red now. Some of the paint is probably too far gone but I'm hoping with a little more work I can get some more shine out of it.

Remember to wax each panel after you've polished it else the paint will soon look worse than it did before .

I like this rig .

Upper radiator hose, pump to carb fuel line.
Realized the radiator and thermostat housing are dying, and I have a ton of cleaning to do.
I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. Putting around in Old blue.

I have no experience with budgeting with a wife. It helps, since my budget is so small to start with.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Thanks man and yea I think one more time going over it with polish then a coat of wax will get it about where I want it or at least as good as this paint will ever be.

Oh, she is a good wife and a car gal.. but sometimes she forgets what money got spent on.. And it hit a nerve.. Asking why I haven't spent time and money on it.. after cutting a check of 2200.00 for repairs to her truck..
and booking another vaca for this year.. just was boom..
She doesn't understand why I don't just buy what it needs and/or I want and charge it..
I'd rather not.. and save and buy ..
It's all good,, she came home from work and asked why I hadn't used the gift card she got me for my x mas/b day to summit to get heads..
I sad I had to save up to get them.. she was like " I gave you a gift card of 125.00 "
I replied, I know.. then opened the afr site and the page for the heads, and handed her the laptop.. she was what is this, I said this is what the cost..
her jaw dropped..
I said, I had the money put aside for them an intake and the machine work.. but you wanted to go to Hawaii for our 10th..
All I got was if those cost that much, how much is the stuff in basement..
I said more than your truck repair and less than the diamond on your finger..

Great wife but no clue on what stuff cost..

last summer A few streets away someone was selling a mustang..
She was like, I'd like that, even if it isn't the year I really want..
It was a green on green 1971 mach 1 , I stopped and let her get out and look at it, As I sat in the car as I knew it was going to be big bucks.. and wasn't going to bother..
She looked it over and was I likey.. I said, hope you plan on a good bonus, at that point she looked at the for sale sign and got back in the car..
She said it wasn't bad only 3500 I said I think you missed a zero..
she got out and looked again..
and yup.. it was, she got into our car and I said now you know why I was mad when I found a 1970 for 4000 and you only said wrong year..
All good, Don't think she'll be asking for a 68 fastback again anytime soon

Yes new seal with old SS trim. I have done my 71 twice with the trim. It's a pain but it is do able. I had my son and daughter helping me so that was part of the problem.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I finally got around to replacing my proportioning valve that was leaking out the front, small leak but annoying. CPP sent me a new one last year. I drove the truck with a sandwich bag taped below the valve to catch the fluid, Rube Goldberg would've been proud!

Was it leaking from where the black cap is in your bottom pict? I have one doing the same thing now. I was kind of hoping it would stop or was some type of bleed.

Yes it was leaking out of the front. I called CPP and they sent me a new one no charge. Seems the had a bad batch of the valves.
