1972 K10 Project "Daily Driver"

Well ive had this truck about 2 months now. Its a 72 lwb k10. 350 and Sm 465 and 205. My dad bought it for me as a college graduation present. it almost completely stock. the only changes i have found are the radio, seat, and steering wheel for the most part. at one point someone did do a crappy repaint.

My plan for the truck is to drive as much as possible while doing little things to make it a little nicer. then when the time comes and i can afford a frame off restoration i will. now to the pictures.

When i got it....

Re: 1972 K10 Project "Daily Driver"

Next i removed the cracked dash pad and radio and ripped the old brittle glove box trying to get it out. i also found the original owners manual in the glove box.

Re: 1972 K10 Project "Daily Driver"

over the last couple weeks i picked up 6 15x8 rally wheels for $150 and a set of 31x10.50 R15 Bfg All terrains with 50% tread for $200. Yesterday i got the tires on the wheels, and put them on the truck and this is how it looks now.

The next things to do are new dash pad and glove box. a radio delete plate and aftermarket stereo under the seat. new front and rear bumpers, new windshield, and all new cab seals, and door locks.

Cool truck! The best thing you can do with one of these old things is drive it every day. How's she run?

The reason I ask is that my 67 4x4 has two and since I am converting to a np205 I need to dump the two and the carrier bearing and find a single. Thanks for the response.

400 miles and counting with no problems so far

Now if i could just get my other 72 sold i could start doing some more work on the truck

Re: 1972 K10 Project "Daily Driver"

My truck is just like yours but a GMC. Odd thing about my truck is that the fender emblems said 2500 but the axles are 6 lug, another thing is that the gvw of my truck it 6600- the gvw of a 2500. I have put a little more that 2100 lbs of old shingles in the bed and was just on the helper springs. I dont understand why she has 1/2 ton 6 lug axles? Factory screw-up??

whats the vin number say? 1/2 or 3/4? also some one could have just swapped them in over the past 40 years for some reason or another

Man those rally wheels and BFG's helped the looks a lot! Nice score on them too! As far as I know, only the trucks equipped with a Rockwell transfer case had a 2 piece drive shaft in the 4x4's and they quit using them in 69.

Yeah i know some of the 90's gm 3/4 tons had 6 lug axles but i doubt they'd have a light duty 3/4 in back then. I'm thinkin its a factory screw up or i have a rare piece . It would be nice if it had the 16.5 inch 6 lug wheels, they are rare and were for heavy duty 1/2 tons and blazers!

Well, I moved it out of the shop to back out side about 3 weeks ago. Last week we moved it again and that's about it. It's supposed to be going to the body shop to get painted but I have to wait until the guy gets an open stall. So no real big progress.
