Good luck to Andy! It would be cool to do a welcome home get together, once the burb gets to ohio. Keep the updates coming!

Re: Longhorn Mans Western Tour 2007

Just sent Andy a text message, and he sent a response. He's about 130 miles west of Cheyenne, heading to Denver. He mentioned something about 70mph crosswinds, but said he's having a BURBARIFIC time!

Re: Longhorn Mans Western Tour 2007

He's in the high (and cold) country now! I have driven that stretch many times and it can get REALLY windy! We have at least one board member along that route in Boise...along with a few of my relatives! I wish I had known that he was going that way...we could have had a few more pics and he could have had a place to stay and a warm meal. Oh well...I am sure he is doing fine.

Re: Longhorn Mans Western Tour 2007

UPDATE - I just met with Andy for about an hour at about 3:30 here in Fort Collins, Colorado. He's having a pretty good trip so far, except for one bad tire and a minor (well OK, major) fuel leak. He was able to fix em both and is back of the road.

We met up at the gas station he was at, he gave me a T-shirt (thanks Andy!!), and he shared some liquid gold (Mtn. Dew).

The ol' burb is loaded to the gills with parts! Sounds like the rear suspension is a little worn, making for some fun driving, especially in the aforementioned crosswinds of Wyoming!

Otherwise, all is good, and he's southbound once again! Great to meet ya Andy! Good luck with the rest of the trip!

Nope, it's all still there. There are some little pieces flakes off the edges, but it's still readable.

Yeah, he said he was getting a lot of horn honks going down the road.

Re: Longhorn Mans Western Tour 2007

I talked to him a little bit ago for a couple minutes then he had to go. He called me back but I missed it. The tire thing was a little bit of a fiasco...couldn't get the lugs off, bent the iron, that kind of stuff. The bummer about the gas line is, Billa pointed that out to us early on, but we just go so wrapped up in other stuff it didnt get changed. The noisy rear suspension is the panhard bar...bushings are shot.

As far as texting him goes, I don't feel right giving out someones phone number unless he gives the ok.

Burbin cross the USA

HEY GUYS!!!!!!!!
I'm in the lobby at a hotel in the denver metro area. sick69 just left here... we got the wheels in there, I didn't have to give up my sleeping area, but it is compimized. (I'm SURE I dodn't spell that right) I might be meeting up with him tomorow again... he has some 3/4 ton rims/tires he isn't gonna use, but he gets off work about the time I had planned to be out of town... maybe even out of state. I'm too tired to try and figure out the logistics of it all right now.
As for me GIVING away the shirts... Al told me to give a shirt to anyone (esp members) that help me along the way. sick69 INSTANTLY took off his T-shirt, and put on the one I gave him! It was cool as hell.
Sad to say, I had to use a couple t-shirts to soak up all the petro free flowing out of the fuel line in that truck stop parking lot. I plan on washing them, and ending up with more work shirts, but if I can't stop the fumes IN THE TRUCK from the shirts... I may have to toss them before I get home.
As for selling them... Al payed for them, I think we should be asking HIM about that. But there are still quite a few left.
I don't have enough time to respond to ALL the great things you guys have said... I'm in the lobby here and there is like a 15 min limit.
I DO want to say thank you to everyone who was there, or whom has given there number for the trip. If you've sent in your number for the contact list, make sure it is current. I tried callin one when I had the tire blow a belt and the fuel leak (did I mention they were at the same stop?) and the number was disconnected.
So far, I had the tire go (still hods air, i can limp on it if need be)I lost a hub cap, I had a fuel line crap out (steady flow out the line, lost 2 or 3 gallons), the knob for the rear air fell off, (already repaired) inside rear view mirror fell off in my hand, (it'll be glued on in the morning) and, the rubber pad fell off the brake pedal. I'm getting 9 to 11 MPG, not bad considering the load, the cross winds and head winds, and, the altitude I am at now. (black smoke out the pipe) I've been keepin it between 65 and 70 for the best part. I did get a photo of a gravity assisted 94 MPH... I was goin for 100, but I had to lift becouse of the hairpin turn coming up quickly. Over 70, it starts to sway and bounce too much... kinda white knuckle type of sway.
Lotsa texts coming in... which is cool, I get them for free now. I don't want to post it on here, but if a member asks for it, anyone who has it can hand it out... just let me know who you are when you text me.
Mark... thank you again, for everything you did to sell me this truck. I know I said it in person, but I wanted to say it here too. You went above, and beyond on this. Thank you thank you thank you.

I gotta get off of here.
And yes, i said I was havin a burbarific time... maybe burbtastic... maybe even burbawesome.... yeah, that was quite a reach there.
I'll be back on wed or thursday.

Re: Longhorn Mans Western Tour 2007

good to hear from you, wondering if you were going through the DT's not being able to post 10 times a day on the board. as for the rear view mirror, two things, 1. with all that stuff loaded in there you can't see behind you any way, 2. with the imortal words from Gumball Ralley "whatz behind me duz notta matter". As for the shirts, they're yours to do what you want with them. you could still be 200 miles from home, 1/4 of coleslaw and one chicken leg from KFC is all you have, sell a shirt and have a MacDonalds breakfast on me -- your on a road trip Baby!

good luck, have fun, be safe

Re: Longhorn Mans Western Tour 2007

Ok I just got home from meeting Andy. It was pretty cool, shot the poop mostly took a little figureing on how to get those wheels in there! He got some really cool pics along the way so far. I stopped at a gas station on the way home and got asked about the shirt( not sure if I said it but THANKS FOR THE SHIRT) by the guy that worked there and another guy that was getting gas. They both thought it was wierd/cool, but neither of them were into cars/trucks so they they wouldn't understand.

Man that burb is really clean. A couple little things but deffinetly worth the trip to get one that clean. I'm sure Andy will post some good pics for all to see. His hotel is about 2 hours away from my house so I dunno,,,maybe i'll call in.

The lettering is pretty much still there. Alittle worn from rain but still very readable.

Andy is a really cool guy. I'm glad I got to meet him. He did fill me in on the story behind his longhorn,,,,,,,,I knew this board was top notch but from what he told me top notch isn't high enough!!!!!

We'll have to see what happens tomarrow afternoon for the tires and wheels hopefully we can get it worked out and get the ones I have on the burban for him.

ANyway gotta get to bed it's 12:54 and I have to be up for work at 5.

earl87gta...good point...we want to see a picture of the graveyard after the Longhorn Tour left town!!!!!!!!! Mark, are you up for it? One last pic? I know what I am going to be wearing this weekend when I get to Monroe!

Andy...too late to tell you to toss those shirts in the bathtub with some of that cheesey shampoo in the hotel room...from the pics I don't think you will using it...sorry about that. Turn on the bathroom fan and close the door...they will be fresh by morning. I hate that gas smell in the car.
