Re: How about some pics of 73-87 Long Beds?

How bout this one. I'm guessing it's a cab & chassis with a modified stepside bed. Would have been eaiser to do a stepside bed, leave the fenders intact, lengthen the box 4 inches and put the fenders where you want. And I'm just guessing here, it could be a 3/4 ton that was made into a 1 ton and stepside. And I'm not even sure about the width, but from this one pic it looks like the bed is not wider than the cab. Anyway, never seen it on here before so I thought I'd throw it out there.

I've seen longbed stepsides before, but never in a one ton. I was more pointing out the dual rear wheels under it.
I mentioned adding 4 inches because cab & chassis' frames are 4 inches longer in regular cabs. So you'd have to lengthen the bed, and that kind of bed would be far easier to do. But, looking at those other pics, I don't know that this bed looks any longer than those. So perhaps instead it was a factory long/step, and someone tucked a C&C axle under the back, and changed the front spindles and hubs over to match.

Re: How about some pics of 73-87 Long Beds?

Tha cab would appear to be a bit longer than stock, but that might just be the way tho photo looks, the bed looks like it would be the stock length. The rear end looks to have been narrowed possibly. The three cab/chassis trucks I have been around were well over 4 inches longer than a stock frame, bout 2 feet longer, pretty much crew cab frames with regular cabs.

Ill be damned, I was looking so hard at the bed, I didnt even notice the cab mod! There's where the extra four inches went, they added to the cab instead. asfik, regular cab C&Cs are 4 inches longer than rclb, crew cab C&Cs are the same length at crewcab pickups.

The only ones I've been around were all cclb frames with regular cabs, two of them had 10' flat beds, the other had a 8' dually box, with 2' or so, from another box grafted onto the front, kinda like this, only with dual rear wheels, http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/2571824864.html. I guess ive never seen a rclb cab/chassis.

Re: How about some pics of 73-87 Long Beds?

I was planing on building a longer bed like that (except with dually fenders) on my K30 because it was a cab & chassis truck but now im leaning towards getting a crew cab for it and just keeping it a 8' bed. I'll have to add a few inches to the frame though because the single cab C&C wheelbase is shorter than a CC long bed wheelbase. I already swapped out the narrow 14B dually rear for a wide D70 HD rear encase you were wondering.
