Exclamation Need opinions on PS box mounting issue

Would like to get opinions on something regarding adding PS to my C10. My question is about the steering box I picked up to use. It is a rebuilt unit that recently came out of another C10 with very low miles.

The issue is someone drilled out all of the threads in the mounting holes on the steering box. What I was wondering if there would be any problems if I installed the box using bolts (grade 8 of course) through the box & frame, and used nuts on the inside of the frame to secure it.

Appreciate any info or suggestions.

Thanks
Scott

Re: Need opinions on PS box mounting issue

I wouldn't have a problem doing that, as long as the bolt heads and or washers had a good bearing area on the box ears. I would also run longer bolts which I could double nut as well as lock washer. May even use NyLocs for the double nuts. Of course the biggest concern is the bolts loosening up.

I will second the use of unlock nuts. I would have no worries about mounting the steering box that way.

You could heli-coil the box.
