Cam opinions, please ....

Hi, everyone;

I purchased a pair of Vortec heads for my '72 C20 (062 casting) from the junkyard fro $50 each - $100 total. Great deal.

I also bought a Howards Cams 112011. .420 intake and exhaust lift, 280 adv. duration. I figured this will make a fine torquey engine.

Any comments?

Also, I have a SM465, and an HO72 rear - either 4.10 or 4.53(?), haven't yet checked. Yes, some full length headers, too.

Original heads have 1.72 intakes!

Re: Cam opinions, please ....

Well, I installed them. Noticeable power increase, but in a heavy truck ...
Carb is leaking - quadrajet. Get pools of fuel on the intake. Leaking out the top. Also, manifold heat bi-mettallic thing is no longer available, due to the new intake, so the choke doesn't work anymore. I have a spare Holley 1850 with manual choke that I will probably put on it. New intake has square and spread bore carb bolt patterns.

Opinion: Leave it carbureted, or install TBI? I have almost everything needed, including computer, harness, sensors and throttle body. I still need an O2 sensor and fuel return line. How well does TBI work with a modified engine?
