Exclamation Pros and Cons of Rhino Linings

I'm thinking about it. I dont have a hard top anymore and usually dont zip in the sides of my top, actually i zipped them out after i installed the top and havent zipped them back in since. I'm in central cal so it doesnt rain much at all. When it does, it's usually not for long and dries out pretty quick. I need to pull the carpet and foam from the front and make sure nothings rusted worse then just surface rust as far as floor pans go etc. Assuming nothings bad since the back of the tub/bed is pretty good/rust free.... then as said i think i want to have it lined. I did a diy spray on in the back years ago and its flaking now. I had a boss who had a rhino lining in the back of his dakota sxt and it was a real clean finish and didnt look sloppy at all. As said since the back isnt enclosed i'm not really thinking about or wanting a nice carpeted finished etc.

Pros vs. cons?
Does anyone have one or something similar?
How much should it cost?
Please post pics if you have had your bed lined and have any or just give me a link to an already existing post about this. i havent found anything searching.

Only negative I have for you is the responses I got when I was considering it,

It is pretty damn permanent, unless you use a grinder or a sandblaster

edit: So is this the only reason you decided not to do it, or did you?

What should i make sure isnt sprayed / what would i NOT want sprayed over?

It lowers your resale value since there is no way to determine what might be hiding under it. Also, nobody can repaint the rig again unless they only paint up to the edge of the lining.

That being said, it is durable and, if you don't have rust, it should help prevent any future. If you plan to paint the truck anytime, I'd get it painted first and then line the inside. If you only line up to the bed rail, it shouldn't cause any problems for putting a top on if you ever decide to do so again.

I have passed on buying a few blazers because they had line-x. That being said, I have it in my truck. I wish I didn't. If you do decide to do it, don't go cheap.

As said i'm not going to put nice new carpet in it, so if i dont line it with something serious like line-x or rhino linings, what should i so?????

I hardly have the cash to have the entire truck painted including the inside or ofcorse that's what i would do... so , BEsides doing that..

Why not just leave it painted?

You already said, it dries out pretty quicky, right? No harm, no foul.

i love mine, i have carpet over top of it, if i need to haul somthing dirty i just have to lift up my carpet a little and set the object on the rhino lining. done.

IMO i perfer it.

It all depends on what YOU want. It is your truck/Blazer, so if you plan to own and drive it for ever or a long while anyways, do it. I have a hard time believing it would lower the value? It is like $3-500, depending. I'd say up to the bedrail, not over, the floor all the way up to the seem on the floor boards (just about parrallel to the dash bottom. I plan to do it, and if you think you might sell and someone might be concerned about the hiden truths, just shoot a ton of picts and show them? Bottom line, it's your's and you drive it, do what you want. I usually end up selling my projects before I can finish them so resale is an issue for me, but if you plan to own for awhile, then do it!!

I have had 2 Line-X liners. not a rhino. I think that the completed job depends on the prep. Not all dealers put out the same quality work. be sure to see some of the work from the shop that you use.

My off-road blazer is covered inside, stem to stern and I guess I wouldn't have it any other way.

Mud it up and hose it out.

All depends on your use/wants/needs I'd say.

I dont know i'm stuck between a rock and hard place, obviously since it costs much more getting it done vs. not doing anything, i'm probably going to think about it a bit more with all of these things to think about. The major deciding factor will be what my floor boards/pans look like when i pull the carpet up, as said the bed is pretty flawless as far as rust goes, there isnt any.. so hopefully they floots in the "cab"/ front of the tub wont be any worse. The back was covered same as the front up till about 2-3 years ago and it was fine up till this point, i dont think much could have happened to the front since. I have to stop beating around the bush and go f!cking see for my self... :lazy:

Line-X beats Rhino hands down,if you do go this route.It is applyed using a "hot" process and that makes all the difference in the world.Bonding is better,it levels to a pleasent vinyl looking texture that can be cleaned.Rhino looks like cottage cheese.

personally i love mine. very clean looking, and it can be taken off with some special remover liquid stuff and a lot of scraping/brushing work. i got line-x

Not sure which brand was put into my blazer by the PO. I like the look of it but have experienced the following problems.
I have walked in the back of trucks with spray in liners with snow on my boots and never slipped. The liner in my blazer is slippery with snow covered boots.
Also, make sure you have replaced your body mounts before you spray in a coating. I had to cut the liner off the bolts with a diegrinder. I was able to do a neat job but it was time consuming.

the bolts in back? this is exactly the type of stuff i need to know. IF i cant do the body mounts my self, how much would a body shop rape me for doing this? (how many hours would the job be...and parts)

One thing to watch out for is condensation forming between the lining and the metal. This is especially a problem in areas where temperature changes between seasons are great. If water and air can get in between the two surfaces the metal will eat away without you even noticing it until one day you step on it and your foot sinks in a little. Another problem is it's nearly impossible to seal the ends unless everything is coated.

The entire inside of my Jimmy is lined, but the only place you can see it is the tale gate. The rest of the interior is finished. Put bolts in any bolt holes
( like seats) you want to reuse before application.. I do have the pictures of my rust repair prior to the Vortex liner.
I plan to have my hard top done inside and out.

i've always thought it would be nice to do an offroad-only 4x4 interior in the stuff before reinstalling the seat and bare necessities.

its not a hard core 4x4 rig but its by no means a show truck either. If anything its my daily driver (when i'm not driving my girls daily driver ) As said i'll need to see when i can get around to checking out under the carpet and foam up front.

72cheyennesuper - you dont really seam too for the idea do ya good point/s though, i understand.

Body mount bushings - you will find 4 bolts behind the back seat, 4 in front of the back seat and one in front of the front seats.There are also 2 at the rad. All bolts need to be lifted through the floor to replace the bushings. If they are like mine they are tack welded to the floor and need to be grinded away. Very time consuming if you have a floor coating you are trying to save. This is work that anyone with a floor jack, sockets, wrenches, a sawsall or cutting torch and a trouble light can do. Check the FAQ about it also. Also don't be fooled by the condition of the bolts. I could easily turn the nuts on the bottom so I thought the bolts could be reused. Once I got them out it I found that they were almost rusted through inside the bushings. You are looking at less than $200 and at most a weekend of work. It is worth it.
