Re: Shenandoah National Park????

We made it to Shenandoah National Park at the south end.
We set up camp on Loft Mountain. Heading north tomorrow. Spotty internet connection.
We were greeted by the welcome wagon.

Re: Shenandoah National Park????

Heading to Front Royal. Skyline Dr. is nice!
Not sure of our stay..my wife is want to hit Congaree park in S.C. then Hot Springs is our last stop before heading home.

Hey Tim, I don’t think we will have enough time to met up... kind of sucks because I really wanted to meet you.
Between terrible cell service and playing our vacation by ear hasn’t helped.

Re: Shenandoah National Park????

We spent a couple days in Shenandoah National Park. Today we did a few miles of the Appalachian Trail from Front Royal.
Not an easy hike.
Beautiful country!
We had a change in plans. We decided to drive up to Harpers Ferry National Historic Park and spend a couple hours late this afternoon.
We had to hike down to Lower Town. Lots of history.
We may go to Arlington tomorrow.

Re: Shenandoah National Park????

Nice! You were 7 miles from home! We’re the museum buildings open? When we were there in august everything was still closed from covid and the parking was even more of a pain in the ass than normal.

Some of the buildings were open. John Brown building was open, but no staff. Most were not. We had to hike from the entrance parking lot to the lower road. Maybe 2 miles one way.
We liked it.

This morning we drove to Arlington National Cemetery.
Me standing in front of the change of the guard.

That was truly a moving experience.
I’m so glad we made the trip to the Cemetery. I’ll never forget it.

Most of the cemetery was closed because of construction.
The Unknown Soldier tomb was closed.
We walk around there from about 9:30 to noon.

I'm glad you were able to visit Arlington Cemetery. You said you wanted to before you left. It truly is a powerful place.

Re: Shenandoah National Park????

One thing that always has struck me about the changing of the guard ceremony is the worn out concrete from all of the repeated steps, back and forth, day in and day out. It is truly a moving place, My great grandmother is buried there.

My wife signed up for a 3 virtual 5k’s to run on our vacation. I ran with her. We just finished the last one in Hot Springs.

Arkansas... she wanted to do the mineral bath, sauna, message/spa thing.
I drank coffee while she did that for 2 hours this morning.
We stayed at the Arlington Motel Resort and Spa.

I figured you might be working your way back home. A great way to spend a week... adventure. Arkansas and Virginia share some same names. So that was the Arlington Hotel in AR?

Yep, Bath County Virginia. It's hard to imagine, but the first inn at the springs that became the town of Hot Springs was built in 1766!
