Hood Hinge Failure!

So I'm driving my truck home on Friday cuz I'm gonna do some polishing for a car show today and all of a sudden I hear this big thud and the drivers side rear hood pops up about 3 or 4" or so! WHAT THE HELL.....I pull off on a sided road to attempt to figure out what went wrong. Lift the hood and it gets all cocked out of alignment.....DAMN!......trying not to chip any paint. Looks like one of the hinge pins gave up and when it did it allowed the hinge to kick down and put a big ole dent in my nicely painted wheel well!...PISS!....so much for the car show.

Only way I could get it to sit back down was to pull the hood spring out....fun job on the side of the road all by myself.

Anybody ever have this happen? (they are repro hinges that I bought locally from reputable seller)

Wonder if I can fix it?

....and of course now I'm worried about the other one!

Re: Hood Hinge Failure!

That sucks! Are you planning on coming to the Gold Rush Car Show in Oroville next week (if you get it fixed)? I'll be there with my truck, it's entered as "under construction", and I know some others from the board are coming too.

Re: Hood Hinge Failure!

Whoa! That sucks! How freak is that???!

On a positive note, things happen for a reason Jim...this sounds like a perfectly good reason and opportunity to replace it with a billet hinge for the next show...?

Re: Hood Hinge Failure!

My hinge was also on the brink of popping. For the last 5 years my hinge has been wore out. I finally got it replaced. The guy who installed it said, he had never seen a hinge that wore out. Know I just pop the hood release and hood opens it self. It's really nice.

Re: Hood Hinge Failure!

I had the same thing happen, with the original hinge. It didn't dent my fender, but it did chip the corners of my hood. I figure it happened because I am constantly opening and closing my hood.

Re: Hood Hinge Failure!

I agree with some of the others. You're truck is definately worthy of some whip a$$ billet hood hinges.

Well Jim at least it wasn't the hood latch that failed!
